Sarah Sherman has quickly become one of the most distinctive voices in comedy. Best known as a cast member on 'Saturday Night Live,' where her surreal characters, oddball sketches, and ongoing torment of Colin Jost have made her a fan favorite, Sherman has spent years building a devoted following on and off screen. With last year’s comedy special 'Sarah Squirm: Live + in the Flesh' — produced by Josh Safdie, Ronald Bronstein, and Eli Bush — the 33-year-old is letting her freak flag truly fly. The special is theatrical, confrontational, and profane, full of gory gags and visceral visuals. Think Phyllis Diller meets Pee-wee Herman partying with John Waters (who happens to intro the show). Sarah joins us to talk about building an hour of comedy from scratch, learning from her ‘SNL’ castmates, bombing in front of thousands while opening for Adam Sandler, and why roasting is sometimes easier than writing a joke from nothing.
