I'm Matthew Mitchell, and tonight's story is titled The Echo of the Abyss, Part 1 of this week's series: The Prism of the Deep. Felix lived on the edge of a world where the water did not ripple; it vibrated. The Sea of Echoes was a vast, shimmering expanse of liquid silver that supposedly held the discarded thoughts and forgotten dreams of every civilization that had ever existed. Felix was a scavenger of the mind, a man who spent his days wearing a heavy copper diving suit and sinking into the cold, quiet depths to find things people had forgotten they ever knew. It was a lonely profession, but it paid well in rare metals and even rarer stories. His outpost was a small, circular hut perched on a jagged cliff of obsidian, overlooking the mercury like waves. The morning began with the usual metallic tang in the air and the low hum of the tides. Felix was preparing his equipment, checking the seals on his brass helmet and ensuring his oxygen canisters were full. He was joined by his only companion, a mechanical parrot named Widget who had been built from scrap parts…
