I'm recording this episode from inside the thing I'm about to describe, and I think that's exactly why it needed to be recorded today. This episode is about the female burnout pipeline: the specific, under-discussed sequence that takes high-achieving women from ambitious and driven to depleted and disconnected, often so gradually and so disguised as ambition that we don't see it coming until we're already deep in it. I've talked about burnout before on this show, but never while I've actually been in it. So this one is different. I'm walking through the six stages I've identified (in myself and in the high-achieving women I work with): hyper-independence, "cortisol culture," optimization addiction, over-functioning, "earning rest," and emotional exhaustion disguised as ambition. Each one builds on the last, and by the time most of us recognize what's happening, we're at the end of the pipeline wondering why the things that used to light us up feel like weights tied to our ankles.
