Jude Pemell shares her journey from theatre and film to a career in forensic psychotherapy, exploring themes of trauma and feminism.

Jude Pemell is a Psychotherapist based in Sydney, Australia. She trained in journalism and began her career in theatre and film across the UK, USA and Australia. She is an alumni of NIDA, the National Institute of Dramatic Arts, Sydney, Australia, an author of non fiction and poetry and a playwright of two stage productions. Her love, training and experience in theatre and film, paved the way for a remarkable second act: a 30-year career in forensic psychotherapy and public service, working in criminal justice, substance-abuse treatment and immigration detention, and contributing to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. A natural storyteller, Jude takes us on a journey through her life from the 1950s and the influence of her mother, who owned and ran a small hospital in New South Wales and modelled progressive feminism, through to her current psychotherapy work with people who have experienced complex trauma, including refugees.
