The book of Zephaniah begins with the thunder of judgment, but it ends with the sound of singing. As we continue our journey through the Minor Prophets, Zephaniah gives us a powerful picture of both the holiness and the love of God. Sin is serious, judgment is real, and the Day of the Lord is coming—but the God who judges sin is also the God who delights in saving sinners. Judah had experienced outward religious reform, but many hearts remained far from God. They continued the sacrifices and ceremonies while drifting into complacency, divided worship, and idolatry. Zephaniah warns us that familiar religion can never replace a living relationship with Jesus. The call of this book is clear: Seek the Lord. Seek righteousness. Seek humility. God lovingly warns His people before judgment comes, inviting them to repent, return, and find refuge in Him. Every warning points us toward the cross, where Jesus—the spotless Lamb of God—received the judgment our sin deserved. Then the message changes from judgment to joy: “The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”…
