About this episode

This episode discusses the importance of genuine repentance as a prerequisite for true forgiveness in the Christian faith.

Repentance Is the Pathway to Forgiveness BIG IDEA: True forgiveness requires genuine repentance. You're not struggling with sin because you don't know better. You're struggling because you haven't truly turned from it to receive forgiveness. That's the heavy lift of love—and it's where we have to start. Repentance was central to Jesus's message and ministry from the very beginning. He opened His public preaching with a declaration: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Matt. 4:17). Mark records the same urgency: "The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the Gospel" (Mark 1:15). You could say the whole of Jesus's ministry is a ministry of repentance. But here's what may be the most significant thing from this sermon: Repentance is not another task to add to your Christian to-do list. Repentance is turning to a Person, not achieving a goal.
