The San Diego Padres beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-2 Monday night at Petco Park and did it without help from their biggest stars. Fernando Tatis Jr., Jackson Merrill and Manny Machado combined to go 0-for-12, but Freddy Fermin and Samad Taylor carried the offense while Walker Buehler battled through traffic and the bullpen slammed the door. Fermin finished 2-for-3 with a solo home run, two RBI and a sacrifice bunt. Taylor delivered one of the best all-around performances by a Padre this season, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, a stolen base, an RBI bunt single, a two-run single in the eighth inning, a leaping catch at the wall and an outfield assist that erased a runner at home plate.
