In another blow long suffering UK landlords, Chancellor Rachel Reeves has announced a new higher rate of tax surcharge on rental income profits in her budget, which will see the tax burden rise to record levels. Buy-to-let landlords will pay a tax rate two percentage points higher than the basic and higher rates of tax from April 2027. Frozen threshold bands until 2030 means most of us will pay more tax due to ‘fiscal drag’. Savers, family businesses and pensioners will also be hit, whilst the welfare budget heads towards £2 TRILLION.
