This episode explores the significance of Jesus's words in Luke 19:20 and the transformation of the Passover meal into a new remembrance.
The word "remembrance" in Jesus's words in Luke 19:20 would call to the disciples minds that for more than 1500 years the Jewish people had been remembering their liberation from Egypt by the strong arm of God by means of the annual Passover meal. But in using that word, Jesus is changing the object of their remembrance as well as fundamentally changing the nature of the meal itself. What does it mean that Jesus has given is a new meal to replace an old meal with an entirely new object to remember?
