Episode 223: Spring Cleaning is NOT self-care!
From Self Care is Sexy by Kris Braylin
June 4, 2026 · 20 min
About this episode
The episode discusses how spring cleaning is often misrepresented as self-care and emphasizes that self-worth should not be tied to household chores.
Got a pile of laundry that's been sitting there for a few days? A sink load of dishes piling up? Well guess what? So does everyone else and it doesn't mean you're a failure. It’s time to tell the truth - "Spring Cleaning" and “tidying for joy” is just another form of performative toxic positivity trying to sell us more organizing and cleaning supplies and that is NOT self-care. Your self-worth should not be based on whether or not you vacuumed today. And for God sakes stop holding your snacks hostage until you have cleaned the living room.
