About this episode

Shannon Algeo returns to discuss his book on smartphone attachment and his journey towards digital liberation.

In today’s episode we welcome back psychotherapist and thought leader Shannon Algeo for his second visit to the podcast. We explore Shannon’s new book, “The Power in Your Hands” about our relationship to our smart phones and his quest to liberate himself from his own attachment to technology. We talk about: How nature, biking, and music all shaped Shannon’s early years and how they continue to nourish his soul when he feels the despair of digitization. When Shannon found himself in his early twenties as an influencer getting thousands of followers and likes, and the light and the shadow of this experience. His personal reckoning with the attachment to his phone and how he faced his own compulsive tendencies around this. The research about people’s attachment style and how they relate to their phone. Several stories about his time in France while writing this book (one with the Mona Lisa) that revealed to him society’s relationship to their phones and the anger he felt. The experiments he has done about going offline, including what he calls the “Sacred Slow” digital fast, that have changed his relationship to technology and to life.
