In the quiet town of Whitehall New York, residents, farmers, campers and hunters began reporting encounters with a large wolf-like creature that walked upright on two legs. In the 1970’s, there were numerous sightings of a 7-foot tall, wolf-headed creature on this eastern edge of the Adirondack Mountains. Sightings of large upright hairy creatures surged in Whitehall around 1976, with eyewitnesses reporting howls, bellowing calls, large footprints and glowing eyes in the darkness of night. Local police officers responded to calls from frightened witnesses and had their own sightings of what became known as “The Beast of Whitehall.” The creature was also described as a Bigfoot in many reports. Sightings persist to this day. What exactly is the “The Beast of Whitehall,” and why has it been seen in the area for decades?
