About this episode

The episode discusses how mid-lifers can re-engage with physical activity without pressure, reflecting on personal experiences with sports.

The Middle-aged Bodcast is proud to support Age UK's "Act Now, Age Better" campaign. Age UK’s research found that nearly half of mid-lifers used to dread school PE lessons, with millions still feeling traumatised by PE or put off exercise and sport for life. So in this episode, we're looking back at our own less-than-glorious memories of rugby, football and cricket among other sports and ask how people in midlife can find a way back into movement without any pressure, judgement or embarrassment. We also talk about some of the sports we actually liked, including Rich's surprisingly positive memories of tennis and hokey, and why finding an activity that suits you might be the key to moving more. It's not about channeling Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray or Roger Federer. Sometimes, just hitting the ball over the net is a good place to start.
