Neutrality vs reality: Ireland’s defence gap
About this episode
The episode discusses Ireland's defense readiness in light of Donald Trump's upcoming visit and modern security threats.
Donald Trump’s visit to Ireland next week will put huge pressure on the state’s security and defence apparatus and it’s forcing an uncomfortable question: are we actually ready for modern threats? Pat is joined by Kevin Byrne, retired Lieutenant Colonel of the Air Corps & Patrick Bury, defence expert at the University of Bath and former NATO analyst, to unpack what’s involved: airspace closures, the movement of Air Force One and Marine One, naval protection, and the growing risk from drones and cyber attacks.
