It's a Paddy McAloon song, recorded by Jimmy Nail as part of the Crocodile Shoes project, which was a TV show about a songwriter in the North East. Had I not mentioned it as part of a discussion about Prefab Sprout it may never have come up in conversation, but that would also have meant that I wouldn't be booked out for what promises to be a special evening on the 8th October.
