The "old God" is a false God that uses reward systems, shame, and sometimes spiritual manipulation. To embrace a new God, you can: 1. Explicitly name false beliefs about God, 2. Identify their impact on relationships, nervous system 3. Reality-test beliefs through scripture and Christ’s character 4. Examine how the belief once protected parts of the self 5. Grieve the loss of the familiar but harmful God-image, and 6. Use rituals (termination letter, speaking aloud, burning notes) to “fire” it.
