John 4:1 states "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world". Peter 2:1 adds further insight by saying "False prophets also arose among the people, just as there will befalls teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction."
