
Dr. Jocelyn Foran shares her personal journey of healing through diet after battling ulcerative colitis.

Dr. Jocelyn Foran’s story is different. She’s not just a physician, she’s a longtime patient, too. As a child, she watched and helped her mother battle rheumatoid arthritis. That’s what pushed Jocelyn toward medicine in the first place. As an adult, she developed ulcerative colitis herself. Doctors told her diet had nothing to do with it, aside from one ingredient in processed dairy (carrageenan). Meanwhile, she had a career as an anesthesiologist and was raising three children, all while unintentionally losing weight, losing sleep, struggling to control her bowels, and watching her medication grow less effective by the day. Then a colleague mentioned the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, developed to help with celiac disease and inflammatory bowel disease. She tried it. Within days, everything changed for the better.
