About this episode

Pastor Jamie Duncan discusses the significance of the Easter story and the resurrection of Jesus as witnessed by Mary Magdalene and Mary, the wife of Clopas.

The Easter story centers on two faithful women who walked to Jesus' tomb at dawn, carrying spices to honor their beloved friend who had been crucified. These women, Mary Magdalene and Mary, the wife of Clopas, had witnessed the unimaginable trauma of watching the promised Messiah treated like a common criminal, beaten, mocked, and crucified. Unlike many disciples who fled in fear, they stayed until the end and now came to properly care for His body. What they discovered changed everything. An earthquake had shaken the earth, an angel had rolled away the stone, and paralyzed guards lay scattered around an empty tomb. The angel delivered the most important message in human history: Jesus is not here because He has risen, exactly as He had promised. This wasn't a surprise - Jesus had predicted His death and resurrection multiple times, demonstrating that He keeps His word. Every promise Jesus made that should have been fulfilled by now has been fulfilled, giving us confidence in His future promises of eternal life and His return. The angel's message contained both an invitation and a command: come and see the empty tomb, then go and tell others. This same invitation extends to us…
