About this episode
This episode explores how ADHD affects the grieving process for neurodivergent dads, challenging traditional notions of grief.
Are you grieving ”incorrectly,” or is it just your ADHD? For many neurodivergent dads, the traditional stages of grief don’t seem to apply. We’re often made to feel like we’re cold, detached, or ”abnormal” because we have the ability to compartmentalize loss and carry on with our day, only to have it hit us like a tidal wave months later. In this episode of The Dad Voice, we’re pulling back the curtain on the ADHD grief process. We discuss the ”Grief Switch,” why our brains conceal deep emotions until we have the safe ”bandwidth” to process them, and why the shame of not crying at the ”right time” needs to stop. In this episode: The Compartmentalization Shield: Why your brain ”hides” grief to keep you functioning. The ”Grief Debt”: What happens when that delayed emotion finally catches up. Social Pressure: Dealing with the judgment of people who don’t understand your process. Finding the Space: How to intentionally allow grief in when you’re ready. ABOUT THE DAD VOICE PODCAST: You can’t spell ADHD without DAD. We’re here to build a community for neurodivergent fathers who are tired of ”one-size-fits-all” parenting advice. Join us every Tuesday for honest conversations on ADHD…
