From A Glossary of the People, Places, and Events of Alkyon The Mourner— A god of death, grief, beginnings and endings, traditionally revered by the elves of the northern island. Whether the elven celebration of death as a gift and an honor, rather than as a loss, comes from the influence of The Mourner's adherents, or The Mourner gained the prominence she did because of that belief is, historically, unclear. In elven funerary rites, the elves appointed to stand vigil for the deceased are believed not just to be representatives of The Mourner herself, but true avatars of her for the period of the ritual.
