The book of Ephesians establishes that God has accomplished everything necessary for salvation - choosing, redeeming, adopting, and sealing believers through Christ. But Paul's crucial word, therefore in Ephesians 4:1 connects these truths to how we should live, urging believers to walk in a manner worthy of their calling. This isn't about behavior modification but gospel transformation, where our entire life direction changes through repentance and submission to Christ's lordship. Christianity differs fundamentally from other religions because Christian obedience flows from identity and grace rather than fear or earning rewards. Our culture promotes self-constructed identity and personal fulfillment, but biblical truth teaches that identity is received from God, not invented. While submission to Christ may feel costly in our self-expressive culture, it actually brings true freedom rather than imprisonment.
