About this episode

This episode explores the life and fraud of Bernie Madoff, the orchestrator of the largest Ponzi scheme in history.

His $68 billion fraud literally came down to fake statements printed on a secret floor of the office - so how did he get away with it for long? Bernie Madoff ran the biggest Ponzi scheme in history, and it was shockingly simple. And yeah - he took billions from billionaires, but he also took the life savings and superannuation of everyday people. Homes were foreclosed on and lives were ruined. Bernie insisted only he was to blame, and his wife Ruth and sons Mark and Andrew Madoff denied any knowledge of the fraud. But a 2023 book ( Madoff: The Final Word by Richard Behar (2024) ) revealed that all three of them may have been far more involved than they insisted. Bernie died alone in prison in 2021, knowing that both Andrew and Mark had died and Ruth was alone in an aged care facility. Did he even care? This is Just The Gist of Bernie Madoff and the biggest Ponzi scheme in history. . We give you Just The Gist, but if you want more, there's Breakin' Nooz, JTG After Show AND Bonus eps!
