As we near 900 days since the start of the latest genocide in Gaza, US and Isreali missiles continue to fall on Iran and Lebanon. As death counts rise, the war’s economic fallout is being felt acutely across the globe, as the Strait of Hormuz is vital to not just the shipment of oil, but the global supply chain as a whole. Meanwhile, Middle East Eye reported earlier this month that an adviser to the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps hinted at the possibility of striking “enemy oil lines,” which can only mean the BP-owned BTC pipeline, which transports crude oil from Azerbaijan to Israel. According to Middle East Eye, close to 30% of Israel’s oil supply flows through the BTC pipeline. But Israel and Azerbaijan's connection doesn’t end with oil; they also share a legacy and continued practice of settler-colonialism. In September 2023, just weeks before Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, Azerbaijan launched a military offensive to seize the long disputed Republic of Artsakh, leading to a mass exodus of its predominantly Armenian population.
