This Radio Intifada show focuses on the U.S.-Israeli war of aggression on Iran. Just days before recording, Donald Trump, in addition to threatening to wipe out an entire civilization, made promises to destroy Iran’s infrastructure, starting with its bridges and power plants. This announcement came today, Tuesday evening, April 7—the day we are recording this show. In what could only be described as whiplash, just moments before recording we learned Trump declared a two-week ceasefire on the grounds that Iran had agreed to open the strait of Hormuz. On today’s show we consider: what is the background to this US war of choice? What accounts for Trump’s retraction at the last minute of his threatening –and potentially criminal–escalation? What are we to make of this ceasefire, will it hold? Or, be more akin to those that Israel has repeatedly and flagrantly violated? We take up these questions and more with Iranian political scientist Dr. Masoud Kazem-Zadeh.
