One week ago, we woke up to the news that the United States and Israel had attacked Iran in a major military operation. The bloodshed of day one of US-Israeli military attacks included an elementary school for girls in the southern city of Minab, as well as the assasination of Ayatollah Khamenei. While Iran has been responding by targeting Israel and US military bases across the Gulf, people from across the SWANA region and the Muslim world are protesting this latest Western incursion in the region. Simultaneously, Israel is attacking and displacing people in Southern Lebanon. Tensions are high and misinformation is rampant; in this episode, we’re joined by Iranian unisciplinary artist and filmmaker, Gelare Khoshgozaran to make sense of this moment. Gelare Khoshgozaran is an undisciplinary artist and filmmaker whose work engages with legacies of imperial violence manifested in war, militarization and borders. They use film and video to construct peripheral narratives that seek to redefine existing constructions of ‘home’ Gelare Khoshgozaranas a means of approaching new conceptualizations of belonging.
