Casey McGuire Davidson celebrates 10 years of sobriety by discussing the impact of her alcohol-free lifestyle on her family with her children, Hank and Lila.
Ten years ago, when I couldn’t get more than four days without drinking, I kept thinking about one thing: my son. He was eight years old. And I imagined him ten years into the future. I stopped drinking when Hank was almost eight and Lila was almost two. Not because everything fell apart—but because I could see where things were headed if nothing changed. Fast-forward a decade. On my 50th birthday, my son texted asking if he could have his friends over that night to play poker. He didn’t hesitate. He didn’t worry. He didn’t second-guess inviting people into our home. And that was my full-circle moment. I’m celebrating 10 years alcohol-free, and I invited my son Hank (17) and my daughter Lila (11) onto the podcast for a real conversation about our family then vs. now. We talk about what they remember, what they don’t, how teens actually think about drinking today, and what really changes inside a family when alcohol is no longer part of the picture.
