About this episode

This episode introduces the Wayfinders exhibition featuring mid-career women artists in Edmonton exploring personal and communal themes.

Wayfinders brings together new and recent works by several mid-career women artists working in Edmonton. In their respective practices the artists in this exhibition locate themselves within their own realities and map out varying ways in which to navigate the world. This personal cartography grounds and locates each artist within diverse interwoven networks, material explorations and conceptual structures. Expansive notions of community, knowledge, family, ancestry, and storytelling coalesce to reveal intersecting yet independent points of view. The exhibition is organized into several intimate conversations between artists that explore themes of balance, family, health, location, navigation, and folklore. Each individual artwork serves as a point of orientation, coming together to form a shared map of contact, counterpoints, and complex constellations. These conversations blend into one another, representing the many concerns of women artists working in Edmonton today. This exhibition is organized by the Art Gallery of Alberta and curated by Lindsey Sharman.
