MACHINEFABRIEK - LIJNVERKENNING With the ever increasing roster of artist releasing albums on the Quiet Details label it is no surprise to find that Machinefabriek (Rutger Zuydervelt) was invited to contribute an album to the series. His music perfectly fits the label because it is usually full of 'quiet details'. When Rutger uses his Machinefabriek alias, the music is often more free-form abstract electronic. The releases under his own name are often works for theatre, documentaries or movies. This may be not be 100% strict, but Lijnverkenning ('line exploration') is indeed an album full of abstract electronic soundscapes full of machines humming. With the exception of the vocal parts used in Lijnverkenning 3 (and 4?), and more explicitly in Stemcassette ('voice cassette'), which originate from an opera-rehearsal-tape that Rutger found in a second hand memo recorder. Lijnverkenning presents eight tracks of 'sparse and textural beauty' . The CD-version of the album contains a continuous mix - as is usual on the Quiet Details releases. The tracks are often quiet and unhurried, as if 'the personality of the machines dictated the direction of the music'. Often, they are abruptly cut…
