Roque Santos and I were teammates for over three years together with former world and American record holder Mike Barrowman. Roque was not even in the map to qualify for the Olympics and what he went through training with us made him physically and mentally strong to win the 200 Breaststroke at the 1992 US Swimming Olympic Trials. Virginia Tech Swimming Planificación Temporada 2019-20 Diseño de Temporada Part-1 (24 de Junio, 2020 - 2:00 p.m. Madrid time) Hoy compartí y expliqué el diseño del plan de temporada 2019-20 para mi equipo de natación en la Universidad Virginia Tech. Explico en la presentación que así es como comenzamos la temporada, pero seguro que si analizo ahora veré muchos cambios que ocurrieron de manera dinámica durante toda la temporada. Probablemente sea una forma diferente (no mejor o peor) de hacer un plan de temporada, pero al menos una forma de organizarse y eso tiene sentido para mí y para el cuerpo técnico de Virginia Tech. El plan de esta temporada es una evolución a través de mis experiencias en los últimos 25 años de entrenador, que comenzaron de una manera muy tradicional de planificación, como aprendí en 1994 cuando obtuve mi certificación de entrenador superior en España. Espero que hayan disfrutado y, por favor, sepan que esta es la forma en que creo que los entrenadores deberían planificar. Es solo mi camino lo que tiene sentido para mí y me permite seguir evolucionando. Velocity Based Training (VBT) By Borja Rey. English & Spanish/ Ingles y Español (June 17th, 2020 - 30:00 p.m. New York Time) Personally, I had no clue what Velocity based Training was and now I am very happy that I was introduced to this concept and way of training. The concept is very similar to the way I have been doing my dry-land and conditioning program, so very excited to see the similarities. The presentation was done by Borja Rey that he is a swim coach in Spain and also, he spent few months doing practical training with our Virginia Tech swimming Team and also our post grad/professional group Pinnacle Racing. What are we doing in the pool to start back training after three months of not swimming due to covid-19? (June 10th, 2020 - 3:00 p.m. New York time) Very interesting talk about what options coaches are having now that the pools are starting to open and how they are approaching getting back to training. It seems that everyone is in a different situation and that most coaches are looking to start everything gradually. It is important not to jump right away to start hard just because we feel that we have lost a lot of time. ¿Cómo lo hiciste al asumir el control de tu nuevo programa/equipo? Importancia del Entrenador Asistente ¿Como están los entrenadores enfocando la vuelta a los entrenamientos después de tres meses fuera del agua debido al covid-19? Part 1 (10 de Junio, 2020 - 6:00 p.m. Madrid time) Como siempre una charla muy buena, didáctica y dinámica. La verdad que es un placer el poder conversar con tantos entrenadores sobre estos temas que muchas veces no se les da mucha importancia. Es muy importante el saber que hacer y tener un plan para crear “Éxito Sostenible” cuando tomas las riendas de un nuevo club y poder tener éxito a largo plazo. Uno de los puntos mas importantes para los entrenadores jefes son los Asistentes y estos pueden ser la clave del éxito y también la clave del fracaso. Muy interesante. Muchos equipos de natación están volviendo a las piscinas y hemos hablado un poco de como lo estamos haciendo y cuales son los objetivos después de estar casi tres meses sin poder entrenar. ¿Como Transformar un equipo de natación no competitivo en un equipo de natación competitivo con éxito? Part 1 (3 de Junio, 2020 - 6:00 p.m. Madrid time) Nuestro colega Joan Llorente, Entrenador y Director Técnico del Club Natación Menditxo (Vitoria-Gasteiz, España), me escribió proponiendo este tema que en particular es muy interesante e importante para el. La verdad que con su presentación empezó una gran charla entre entrenadores de diferentes países que pudimos comparar la manera de pensar y hacer las cosas. Puntos importantes que se tocaron: Nadadores jóvenes de 6 a 18 años. Filosofía para tener éxito no solo a nivel de resultados sino el crecimiento personal del nadador en general. Crear una estructura a nivel deportivo y a nivel de negocios para crear un balance trabajando en conjunto con tu junta directiva. Creando una cultura de excelencia y mejora tanto a nivel deportivo como financiero. Teniendo iniciativa y no teniendo miedo a arriesgarse a tomar decisiones difíciles.
