| 6/8/23 | ![]() What is the parents role of the student- athlete when they go off to college | Jill interviews Robyn Jaslow, whose daughter just graduated from the Arizona State gymnastics team. Robyn shares with you from the parent perspective the adjustments and challenges of being the support system for your athlete when they are at college. Also, Robyn shares what it was like being the parent when Jordyn unfortunately called saying she injured her knee and was going to need surgery. This is a very practical podcast on the realities of being the parent of a student athlete and I believe you will also be encouraged to know you are not alone with your questions and concerns. I also like the tips Robyn gives at the end on things to focus on while your gymnast is still at home with you in preparing them for when they go off to college. www.jhicksconsulting.com Become a JH Girl today Hire a personal advisor in gymnastics, A&T, Aquatic sports and more. | 5/9/23 | ![]() Show the college coaches the size of your heart | Have you ever watched gymnasts in your gym or at meets who look down and seem uninterested in what they are doing? Now compare that to a gymnast like Laurie Hernandez. Wow what a performer she was and is. This is what college coaches see when they watch you. Do you show your heart and passion when you perform. Are you creating energy and making people want to watch you? Jill gives a twist on how to go into Nationals with being prepared to show the college coach the size of your heart. It will not only impact your performance, but it tells a college coach you will be able to handle competing in front of a crowd. Have fun if you are traveling to Nationals, but if not no problem. Try to think of ways you can perform while working your upgrades. You've Got This www.jhicksconsulting.com | — | ||||||
| 5/5/23 | ![]() Tips as you prepare for DP Nationals | It is so important for you the athlete, to get recruiting done prior to starting the meet. Email the college coaches on your list by Sunday and let them know the day and time you compete. Also, post a headshot on Instagram or put a headshot in your email. You want them to be able to find you quickly when you are competing. So the #1 item is to stop thinking about recruiting after you send off the last email to college coaches. Take next week for you! Go into Nationals with a plan and execute the plan. Make no excuses and remember the importance of one event at a time. YOU'VE GOT THIS! Stop by our table in Oklahoma at the venue and say hello! We would love to meet you in person. | — | ||||||
| 4/20/23 | ![]() You are not disqualified | Whether you are moving on to Westerns, Eastern or DP Nationals or not, you are still recruitable. In the podcast Jill discusses everything you should be doing and how you can be encouraged even with injuries or struggles at this point in your season. LEARN, GROW & DEVELOP. Also, be sure your definition of success is about your EFFORT and not just the outcome of medals, placement or trophies. www.jhicksconsulting.com to Become a JH Girl and receive a personal advisor For college recruiting websites to be designed by Kati Leotards Guide books | — | ||||||
| 4/1/23 | ![]() College coaches can't recruit you if they can't find you | We want you to be found and recruited. You have worked too hard, to pull back or not show your best attributes not only as a gymnast but also as a person. How is your Instagram looking? Are you adding videos consistently even if you are injured or having a few bad events? You do not have to be perfect, you just need to show your progress. Maybe you have a website or you post to YouTube. Everyone has a different comfort level on which platform they want to utilize, but the key is be consistent.
