| 6/22/26 | ![]() What 5 Days Without Food Does To Your Body (Day 3 is Incredible) | What happens to your body during a 5-day fast? Discover the benefits of fasting day by day, how to activate autophagy, support cellular repair and cleanup, plus fasting tips for maximum results. 0:00 Fasting day by day 1:03 mTOR fasting 1:57 Fasting day 1 2:26 Sodium while fasting 3:32 Day 2 fasting 5:10 Autophagy benefits day 3 7:47 Prolonged fasting benefits day 49:24 5 days of fasting results 10:26 Refeeding tips 11:17 Fasting contraindications 🌟 10 biological signals control how you feel every day, but only 1 matters most for YOUR body. Take the free 2-minute quiz to find out: https://drbrg.co/4b1tp7cA true fast offers many benefits and allows your body to shift into repair mode. During a fast, water, black coffee, and tea without sweeteners are generally acceptable. One of the biggest fasting mistakes is not consuming enough sea salt. During a 5-day fast, aim for 1 to 1.5 teaspoons of high-quality sea salt spread throughout the day. Without adequate sodium, you may experience dizziness, fatigue, or keto flu symptoms. To maximize the benefits of fasting and activate autophagy, keep mTOR low by avoiding protein, carbohydrates, and anything that significantly raises insulin. Walking is encouraged during a prolonged fast, but intense exercise such as weight training is best avoided. On day 1, most people experience significant water weight loss and a rapid drop in insulin levels. Day 2 is often the most challenging, and many people quit before their bodies fully adapt to fat burning. Sea salt and MCT oil can help make the transition easier.By day 3, autophagy begins to increase. Many people report improved mental clarity, reduced hunger, cellular cleanup, mitochondrial repair, and stem cell activation. Electrolytes become even more important at this stage, especially magnesium. Sun exposure and vitamin D are also beneficial. As fasting continues, autophagy remains elevated while the body continues to target damaged cells, pathogens, liver fat, and visceral fat. After a 5-day fast, many people experience a significant increase in human growth hormone, which may support muscle preservation, healthy aging, skin health, fat loss, and weight loss.If you are pregnant, have diabetes, take medications, or have a medical condition, consult your doctor before fasting. If you are new to prolonged fasting, gradually work your way up before attempting a 5-day fast.Dr. Eric Berg, D.C. Take the free 2-minute quiz to find out: https://drbrg.co/4tO9nV9 LDL is a protein made by the liver and serves many important functions in the body. LDL provides the raw materials needed to produce hormones such as estrogen, testosterone, and cortisol. It is also involved in the production of vitamin D and bile.More than half of all heart attacks occur in people with normal LDL levels, raising important questions about the role of LDL in cardiovascular disease. There are two main types of LDL: small, dense LDL and large, buoyant LDL. Small, dense LDL is associated with inflammation, insulin resistance, and chronic stress. Large, buoyant LDL is generally considered non-pathogenic. Despite the focus on lowering LDL cholesterol, there is limited evidence that simply reducing LDL levels acts as heart disease prevention. Higher LDL levels have even been associated with longevity in some research. Many people are prescribed statins without determining which type of LDL they have. An advanced lipid profile can help identify whether your LDL is primarily small dense LDL or large buoyant LDL, providing a more complete picture of your cardiovascular health.Dr. Eric Berg, DC Bio:Dr. Berg, age 61, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting. Take the free 2-minute quiz to find out: https://drbrg.co/4tO9nV9 Symptoms of cognitive decline can begin long before a person develops dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. In the early stages, you may experience a loss of brain energy, a buildup of protein in the brain, and shrinkage of the hippocampus. At this point, most people are not experiencing obvious memory loss. By stage 3, you may start to notice difficulty remembering names, decreased learning ability, and other subtle signs of cognitive decline. These early symptoms can begin as early as your 30s and 40s.Alzheimer’s disease is often described as type 3 diabetes because it involves insulin resistance in the brain. Even though plenty of glucose is available, your neurons can no longer access and use that fuel efficiently. If you need to eat frequently to avoid irritability, fatigue, or brain fog, it may be an early sign of blood sugar problems and insulin resistance.High blood sugar and chronically elevated insulin can deplete vitamin B1, reducing the brain’s ability to produce energy. A diet high in sugar and refined carbohydrates can increase the risk of vitamin B1 deficiency. One of the most important things you can do for dementia prevention is to reduce your sugar and carbohydrate intake. Benfotiamine can help support brain health, but it will not be nearly as effective if you continue consuming a high-carb diet.Dr. Eric Berg, DC Bio:Dr. Berg, age 61, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting. Take the free 2-minute quiz to find out: https://drbrg.co/4tO9nV9 Digital eye strain is becoming increasingly common as screen time continues to rise. Because the retina is actually brain tissue, prolonged screen use can affect both eye health and brain function. The ciliary muscle controls the lens of the eye, allowing you to focus on objects that are near or far away. Extended screen time keeps this muscle contracted for hours at a time, making it difficult for the eyes to relax.During the first few hours of screen use, you may not notice any symptoms. As screen time continues, your blink rate can drop significantly, reducing the lubrication of the eyes and contributing to digital eye strain. After several hours of continuous screen use, the ciliary muscle can lose its ability to fully relax, similar to a muscle cramp. This may contribute to eye fatigue, difficulty focusing, dizziness, disorientation, reduced peripheral vision, and other symptoms associated with prolonged screen exposure. One of the best ways to reduce eye strain and support eye health is to regularly look into the distance and spend time outdoors. Try leaving the house without your phone for 20 minutes and allow your gaze to naturally drift. Taking frequent breaks outside can help relax the eyes, support healthy vision, and may help reduce the risk of myopia.Dr. Eric Berg, DC Bio:Dr. Berg, age 61, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting. Take the free 2-minute quiz to find out: https://drbrg.co/4tO9nV9 Walking on flat surfaces does not mimic natural movement. Natural movement involves uneven terrain, inclines, rocks, and other unpredictable surfaces that challenge the body and brain. The cerebellum, which controls balance, contains nearly half of the brain's neurons. When movement becomes repetitive and automatic, the brain doesn’t have to work as hard. Novel movement and changing pressure patterns can help stimulate the brain in new ways.Reverse walking shifts pressure away from the knees and forces the hamstrings and glutes to become more active. Some of the benefits of reverse walking include:• Reduced knee pressure• Improved hamstring flexibility• Better balance and coordination• Cognitive function improvementOnce you’re comfortable with reverse walking, try walking backwards uphill. Reverse walking uphill is one of the best glute activation exercises and can also help improve ankle strength and coordination. This physical barrier can prevent healthy hair growth. If you’re experiencing hair loss, your hair follicles aren't actually dead; they’re dormant. Even people who are completely bald still have living stem cells within the hair follicles.Scar tissue on the scalp is often caused by inflammation. Inflammation can lead to calcification and reduced blood flow to the scalp, preventing many hair loss remedies from working effectively. You may have heard that DHT, a powerful form of testosterone, causes pattern hair loss. There is usually a deeper root cause behind DHT-related hair loss: insulin resistance.Hair follicles depend on glucose for fuel. If you’re insulin-resistant, hair follicles may not get the energy they need to support healthy hair growth.Simply taking a DHT blocker without addressing insulin resistance may not produce significant results. Improving insulin resistance is a more effective strategy for supporting natural hair regrowth, and a low-carb diet is one of the best ways to combat it.Scalp microneedling has been shown to help break up scar tissue and improve the penetration of topical hair loss remedies. This helps natural remedies, such as topical melatonin, work more effectively.Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio:Dr. Berg, age 61, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting. As protein levels drop in the blood, fluid can build up in the tissues, often showing up first as puffy eyes. You can lose up to 90% of kidney function without noticeable symptoms, which is why early detection is so important. If you notice early kidney disease symptoms, the following tests can help assess kidney function and damage: • eGFR test • Urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio • Blood pressure testingIt’s best to catch kidney disease before stage 4, and the eyes can provide important clues about kidney health. Simply taking more vitamin D doesn’t always solve the problem.Vitamin D depends on several important cofactors, including magnesium, zinc, vitamin K2, retinol, and cholesterol, the raw material used to make vitamin D in the body.Vitamin D enters your cells through the vitamin D receptor. Vitamin D receptor resistance is very common, often caused by obesity, insulin resistance, and poor gut health.Meat is a potent source of highly bioavailable nutrients, especially the cofactors needed for vitamin D. Many plant foods contain antinutrients that can interfere with nutrient absorption.Vitamin D is made from cholesterol, so inadequate cholesterol intake can also impact vitamin D production. The carnivore diet helps to reduce gut inflammation, increase autophagy, improve bile flow, reduce SIBO, and eliminate candida overgrowth, all of which support better vitamin D absorption and overall health.Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio:Dr. Berg, age 61, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting. Prolonged sitting is one of the worst things for your joints. Most people are deficient in collagen because the modern diet provides very little.Collagen also requires specific mechanical input to benefit different tissues. Whether you’re supporting bones, tendons, ligaments, or skin, the right types of movement can help maximize collagen absorption and effectiveness.Your blood vessels are largely made of collagen. Brisk walking, interval training, and nasal breathing can help support vascular health and direct collagen where it’s needed.Aim for about 15 grams of collagen daily, paired with vitamin C to support absorption. For best results, consume collagen 30 to 60 minutes before exercise.Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio:Dr. Berg, age 61, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting. Find out how to look younger, feel healthier, and slow aging naturally with these powerful anti-aging tips.🌟 Which of the 10 health signals are you missing? Take the 2-minute quiz to discover your #1 Health Lever: https://drbrg.co/4tO9nV9 0:00 Introduction: Anti-aging secrets0:47 Glycine deficiency explained2:14 Glycine benefits and function6:29 Glycine benefits and aging 8:10 Glycine and gut health 9:36 The best anti-aging adviceMost people don’t know about this powerful anti-aging secret.Glycine is classified as a non-essential amino acid because the body can make it, but many people are still deficient. Most glycine in the diet comes from collagen, yet modern diets provide very little. An ancestral diet included nose-to-tail eating with plenty of collagen, while today most people eat only lean, tender muscle meats. As a result, a large percentage of adults have chronically low glycine levels.Glycine plays a critical role in red blood cell health, DNA and RNA production, bile salts, and glutathione, one of the body’s most important antioxidants. Your body prioritizes these essential functions first, which means other areas can become depleted.Glycine is also vital for the immune system and quality sleep. When levels are low, your skin may not get enough support, contributing to visible aging. It also impacts fascia, tendons, cartilage, arteries, and the gut lining. You don’t necessarily need a glycine supplement; just focus on increasing collagen intake instead. Add collagen to your coffee or a shake, and pair it with vitamin C to support absorption.
