About this episode

The episode explores the societal implications of AI and reviews two films that tackle the subject.

In this episode of Egotastic FunTime: ReLoaded , I dig into the idea that “convenience” might be one of the biggest societal traps of modern life. From social media addiction to AI anxiety, we’re living in a world where tools meant to help humanity are just as likely to be used to exploit it. I also talk about my own cognitive dissonance with AI. I love it as a tool for research, organization, and productivity. But I also think human beings have a long history of taking useful things and turning them into systems that make life worse for everybody else. That’s the part that worries me. Then I review two new movies tackling AI from very different angles: Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die – a wild, funny, chaotic sci-fi ride about stopping an AI apocalypse, featuring another great performance from Sam Rockwell. Mercy – a slick near-future thriller starring Chris Pratt, where AI feels both dangerous and strangely helpful at the same time. Both films explore the risks of AI, but neither really argues that the solution is to destroy the technology. The real question is whether humanity is responsible enough to use it without turning everything into another social media-style disaster…
