| 6/15/26 | ![]() 400 // I Never Expected THIS When I Started a Decorating Podcast | Five years ago, I sat down behind a microphone, pressed record, and hoped someone would listen. I never imagined that one day I'd be celebrating 400 episodes. And I certainly never expected the lessons that would emerge along the way. When I started this podcast, I thought I was teaching decorating. How to choose paint colors. How to style bookshelves. How to make a room feel finished. How to create a home you love without spending a fortune. But after 400 episodes and thousands of conversations with listeners just like you, I've realized something surprising: Decorating was never really about decorating. It's about confidence. It's about creating a home that reflects who you are. It's about learning to trust yourself. It's about making progress instead of waiting for perfection. And it's about discovering that the home you've always wanted is often much closer than you think. In this special 400th episode, I'm reflecting on the journey, sharing some of the biggest lessons I've learned over the past five years, and celebrating the incredible community that has grown around this show. Whether you've been listening since Episode 1 or you just found the podcast last week, I'm so grateful you're here. | 6/12/26 | ![]() 399 // 5 Stores, Countless Finds: My Budget Decor Shopping List | 🌟🌟 ARE YOU CELEBRATING WITH US NEXT WEEK?!?!?!?! 🌟🌟 Join the 400th episode / 5 year celebration at: https://figandfarmathome.myflodesk.com/400 As we count down to Episode 400, I'm sharing one of the questions I get asked most often: "Where do you shop for affordable home decor?" The truth is, creating a beautiful home doesn't require a designer budget. It does require knowing where to shop, what to look for, and how to mix pieces from different sources to create a home that feels collected rather than cookie-cutter. In this episode, I'm counting down my five favorite places to shop for home decor on a budget and sharing exactly what I buy from each one. In this episode: #5: IKEAMore than just furniture! I'm sharing my favorite IKEA staples, including pillow forms, curtains, frames, plants, candles, kitchen storage, and the white dinner plates that serve as the foundation for nearly all of my tablescapes. #4: TargetOne of my favorite sources for throw pillows, blankets, and bath towels. You'll hear my favorite shopping strategy: finding inspiration from higher-end retailers and then looking for similar styles at a more approachable price point. #3: HomeGoodsThe perfect place for unique finds that aren't showing up in every home. I'm always on the hunt for picture frames, artwork, candles, and those unexpected treasures that make a home feel personal. #2: EtsyWhen I want artwork, handmade decor, custom pillow covers, or beautiful curtains, Etsy is my go-to. Yes, handmade pieces often cost more, but they bring character, craftsmanship, and uniqueness that mass-produced decor simply can't replicate. #1: ThriftingMy absolute favorite way to decorate on a budget. Thrifting is where curated homes are built—but only if you know what you're looking for. I'll share why understanding your aesthetic is the key to successful thrifting and how it can save you from frustration while helping you create a home that looks collected over time. // Links mentioned in show: // Become a Design Bestie by joining the newsletter: https://bit.ly/designbestie Email: hello@figandfarmathome.com Website: https://figandfarmathome.com Join The Collective (monthly membership): https://www.figandfarmathome.com/thecollective Book a Decorating SOS Coaching Call: https://www.figandfarmathome.com/decorating-sos Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/figandfarm/ FREE Facebook Community: https://www.bit.ly/design101group | 24m 59s | ||||||
| 6/9/26 | ![]() 398 // Why most builder-grade homes feel cold, generic and a bit boring (and how to fix it) | 5 Minute Fix | New builds are supposed to feel exciting…so why do so many builder-grade homes feel a little cold, flat, or even generic once you move in? In today’s Five Minute Fix, we’re talking about one of the most common frustrations I see: loving your home on paper, but struggling to make it feel personal, warm, and custom once you’re actually living in it. Because here’s the truth:It’s not that your home is “bad.”And it’s not that you need a full renovation. Most builder-grade homes are designed to be safe, neutral, and broadly appealing—which often means they come without the layers, contrast, and character that make a space feel truly finished. In this episode, you’ll learn: Why builder-grade homes often feel cold or generic (even when beautifully decorated) The biggest mistake people make when trying to “fix” a new build feel Why adding more decor usually doesn’t solve the problem Simple, high-impact ways to add character and personality without renovating How layering, contrast, and intentional choices create a custom feel over time This is one of those shifts that changes everything—not because you’re starting over, but because you finally understand how to see your home differently. And if you’ve ever looked around and thought, “I don’t hate my home…I just wish it felt more like me,” this episode will give you a completely new perspective. Ready to go beyond quick fixes? Inside The Collective, I teach you how to layer, style, and pull your home together so it feels cohesive, intentional, and deeply personal—without guessing, overbuying, or starting from scratch. | 6/5/26 | ![]() 397 // The difference between a decorated room and a designer room (and the secret to doing it in your home) | The Difference Between a Decorated Room and a Designer Room Ever wonder why a room can have all the "right" furniture and decor but still feel unfinished? More often than not, the answer comes down to styling. In today's episode, I'm sharing the exact process I use to style coffee tables, consoles, dressers, shelves, kitchen counters, nightstands, and other flat surfaces so they look intentional rather than cluttered. Because here's the thing: styling isn't about adding more stuff. It's about creating visual interest, balance, and cohesion so your home feels thoughtfully designed. You'll learn how to: Determine the purpose of a flat surface before styling it Edit and curate decor so your styling doesn't become clutter Choose an anchor piece that grounds the entire vignette Use layering to create depth and visual interest Incorporate texture for a more collected, designer look Vary heights to keep your styling from feeling flat Repeat design elements throughout the room for cohesion Add the finishing touch that works in every decorating style If you've ever struggled with coffee table styling, shelf styling, console table decor, or simply making your home feel more polished, this episode will give you a practical framework you can use in any room of your home.HINT: This episode is directly tied to our 5th year/400th episode celebration, so be sure to give it a try on any flat surface in your home. | 5/26/26 | ![]() 394 // Why your furniture layout feels awkward (and how to fix it hast) | 5 Minute Fix | Your furniture might not be the problem. It might just be where it’s sitting. In today’s Five Minute Fix, we’re talking about one of the biggest layout mistakes I see in homes all the time: furniture that feels awkward, disconnected, or “off” in the room…even when the pieces themselves are beautiful. Because here’s what most people do:They push every piece against the walls hoping the room will feel bigger. But instead? The room often ends up feeling cold, disconnected, and surprisingly harder to use. In today’s episode, you’ll learn: Why floating furniture away from the walls can actually make a room feel larger and cozier The hidden reason your seating arrangement may feel uncomfortable or awkward What designers mean by “conversation zones” and why they matter A simple furniture shift you can try in five minutes that changes the entire feel of a room How rugs help anchor furniture and create connection between pieces Why rooms need “pathways” instead of just empty space One of the biggest mindset shifts in decorating is realizing:Open space alone does not create good flow. Connection does. When furniture is too spread out, every piece starts feeling isolated instead of intentional. But when pieces are pulled together thoughtfully, your room immediately starts feeling warmer, more conversational, and more inviting. And friend…this is one of those fixes that costs absolutely nothing to try. | 5/22/26 | ![]() 393 // The 7 decorating mistakes making your home feel incomplete (even if it’s “done”) | You know that feeling when your home is technically decorated… but it still doesn’t feel finished? Everything is in place. You’ve bought the furniture, hung some art, added a few pillows—but something still feels off. Not terrible. Just… incomplete. In this episode, I’m breaking down the 7 most common decorating mistakes that keep homes stuck in that “almost there” stage for years. And here’s the truth most people miss: it’s rarely about buying more things. It’s about a few key decisions that quietly affect how your entire home feels. Let’s get into it. 1. Decorating room-by-room instead of as a whole home When every room is designed in isolation, your home starts to feel disconnected. Even beautiful rooms won’t flow together if there’s no shared thread connecting them. 2. Hanging onto placeholder pieces too long That “we’ll replace it later” rug? The temporary lighting? The art you never really loved? These pieces quietly keep your home in limbo—and your eye registers that lack of intention. 3. Getting scale wrong (especially rugs, lighting, and art) Even well-designed rooms feel off when scale is wrong. Too-small rugs, undersized lighting, or timid art choices can make everything feel underwhelming. 4. Mixing styles without a bridge element You can mix styles beautifully—but without a unifying material, color, or shape language, the room starts to feel accidental instead of curated. 5. Playing it too safe with neutrals Safe doesn’t always mean successful. When everything is soft beige, gray, or white, rooms can lose depth, contrast, and personality. 6. Treating lighting as functional instead of foundational Lighting is often an afterthought, but it’s one of the most powerful design tools you have. Without layering and intention, even great rooms fall flat. 7. Not editing enough Most homes don’t struggle from a lack of decor—they struggle from too much. When every surface is filled, nothing gets to stand out. If your home feels “almost finished,” you don’t need a full redesign. You likely need clarity, editing, and a few intentional adjustments that shift how everything works together. Small changes can create a surprisingly big transformation. If this is the stage you’re in—where you can see what’s not working but aren’t sure what to do next—that’s exactly what I help with inside my coaching and programs. You don’t need more inspiration. You need a clear plan that connects your home together. | 5/8/26 | ![]() 389 // Is AI ruining home design? The truth no one’s talking about | AI is everywhere right now…including home decorating. From instant mood boards to room renderings and paint color suggestions, artificial intelligence is changing the way women approach decorating their homes. But is AI actually helping us create more beautiful homes…or is it making our spaces feel more generic? In this episode, we’re diving into the pros and cons of using AI in home design and talking honestly about what technology can do well—and what it completely misses. Because while AI can generate a gorgeous room in seconds, it doesn’t know your lifestyle, your budget, your pets, your memories, or the pieces you already own and love. Most importantly? It doesn’t know YOU. In this conversation, we explore: The biggest benefits of using AI for home decorating How AI can help you overcome design overwhelm Why AI is useful for paint colors, layouts, and visualizing possibilities The hidden downside of AI-generated homes Why trendy rooms often feel disconnected and impersonal How AI may be pulling women away from trusting their own design instincts The difference between a “Pinterest perfect” room and a home that feels personal and lived in Why your intuition still matters when decorating your home If you’ve ever wondered whether AI can truly replace a designer—or if it’s just another tool in your decorating toolbox—this episode is for you. | 5/1/26 | ![]() 388 // She kept collecting cottagecore inspiration…but nothing was happening in her home (the conversation that turned inspiration into action) | In this episode, I’m sharing a coaching conversation with Stefanie—a woman who already knew what she loved in her home, but couldn’t quite figure out how to bring it to life. She was drawn to cottage-style and Polish granny chic interiors. She had the inspiration saved. She had the vision in her mind. She could even articulate the feeling she wanted her home to have. But her reality didn’t match it. She had been in her home for about a year, and instead of feeling settled and expressive, she felt stuck in neutral. Not wrong… just not her. And like so many women, she found herself collecting more and more inspiration—Pinterest boards, saved images, ideas for color, wallpaper, texture—but nothing was actually changing in her space. If you’ve ever felt like your home is full of ideas but nothing is actually happening, you’re not alone. What Stefanie was struggling with: She wasn’t sure where to start in her home Her space didn’t reflect her personality yet She kept collecting inspiration but couldn’t translate it into action She had ideas, but felt stuck in neutral She couldn’t see how to connect the dots across her rooms This is such a common place to be—especially when you already have good taste and a strong sense of what you like. The problem isn’t lack of ideas. It’s not knowing how to turn those ideas into a cohesive direction for your actual home. What shifted in the conversation: During our coaching call, we worked through how her style could actually show up in real life—not just in inspiration images. Instead of trying to “start from scratch,” we focused on: identifying patterns in what she was already drawn to clarifying how her style could show up consistently across rooms simplifying her decision-making so she wasn’t overwhelmed by options helping her see her home as a connected whole, not separate unfinished rooms The breakthrough wasn’t about adding more ideas—it was about finally making sense of the ones she already had. The bigger takeaway: So many of us don’t actually need more inspiration. We need clarity. Because inspiration without direction just turns into overwhelm. | 2/20/26 | ![]() 378 // Where do I start decorating? 10 Steps to creating a clear plan for any room | How to Plan a Room from Start to Finish: 10 Essential Steps for Stress-Free Home Decorating Do you ever find yourself staring at a room in your home wondering, “Where do I even start?” If you’ve been buying pieces you love but still can’t seem to finish a room, the problem likely isn’t your style — it’s that you don’t have a clear home decorating plan. In today’s episode, I’m walking you through the 10 essential steps to creating a foolproof home decorating plan so you can stop guessing, stop overspending, and finally finish your rooms with confidence. This episode is your practical roadmap for how to plan a room from start to finish — without copying Pinterest, wasting money, or getting stuck halfway through. If you’ve been searching for: How to decorate a room step by step Where to start when decorating a room How to create a cohesive home How to plan a room makeover How to finish a room you’ve already started You’re in the right place. In This Episode, You’ll Learn the 10 Essential Steps: 1. Know Your Aesthetic Before you move a single piece of furniture, you need clarity on your personal style. We’ll talk about how to define your aesthetic without copying someone else’s home. 2. Take Inventory of Your Room Learn how to assess what you already own so you can decorate intentionally instead of impulsively. 3. Define the Goals for Your Space What is this room actually for? Function matters just as much as beauty when creating a cohesive home. 4. Use Inspiration — Without Copying & Pasting Pinterest and inspiration photos are tools, not templates. I’ll show you how to use them wisely. 5. Understand Expectation vs. Reality Be honest about your time, energy, and skill set so your decorating plan stays realistic and doable. 6. Create a Flexible Decorating Budget You need a starting number — but you also need room to adjust. I’ll explain how to plan financially without boxing yourself in. 7. Follow a Step-by-Step Roadmap A room doesn’t come together all at once. I’ll show you how to build in “pit stops” along the way to reassess and adjust your plan. 8. Set a Realistic Timeline Most unfinished rooms stall because expectations are off. We’ll talk about what’s actually reasonable. 9. Execute with Confidence Once the plan is in place, you can move forward without second-guessing every decision. 10. Celebrate the Finished Space Finishing a room is an accomplishment — and celebration builds confidence for the next one. Why This Matters Most women don’t struggle with creativity — they struggle with clarity. Without a clear decorating roadmap, it’s easy to: Overspend on the wrong pieces Buy decor without a plan Leave rooms half-finished Feel overwhelmed every time you walk into the space This 10-step decorating plan gives you structure so your home can feel cohesive, intentional, and finished.
