In Minneapolis this week, federal prosecutors have announced charges against 15 anti-ICE activists who took part in protests against the Trump administration’s deadly immigration crackdown in the Twin Cities earlier this year. The 15 individuals are accused of being part of anti-fascist, or “antifa,” groups that “violently oppose immigration law enforcement" and are charged with “conspiracy to impede or injure a federal officer." At least five of the indicted are trade unionists. In our latest, we talked with Minneapolis based labor journalist Amie Stager about the indictment and how it's a case of overreach by the Trump administration. His work has appeared in many of the leading political science journals, and he is also the author of Nasty Politics: The Logic of Insults, Threats, and Incitement (Oxford, 2023). Bio// Omar Wasow is an Assistant Professor in UC Berkeley’s Department of Political Science. His research focuses on race, politics and statistical methods. His paper on the political consequences of the 1960s civil rights movement was published in the American Political Science Review. His co-authored work on estimating causal effects of race was published in the Annual Review of Political Science.
