| 6/22/26 | ![]() Wonder and Wander (Judges 6:36-40) | Of all the ways God could have chosen to reveal God’s self to the world, why stories? Why not a systematic theology textbook? Or an easy to read list of principles? Why not just a giant collection of rules? Often we just want the point, the lesson, the answer, the takeaway, but stories, good stories, work differently. Stories invite us to slow down and get curious. To notice details and ask questions. This goal this summer is to allow ourselves to wonder and wander through the tried and true stories of the Old Testament and along the way, we might discover there’s more to the story than we thought. | — | ||||||
| 6/15/26 | ![]() Friction Formed (Romans 5:1-5) | The road to healing, strength, and peace is not a smooth digital superhighway spanning the universe. It's a river that grinds away our rough edges so that we can embody the other-oriented love of God. The world tells us that the best life is one of comfort and ease, one without struggle, one that is padded and comfortable. But that’s a lie. The best life is the one that Jesus lived in the real world. And the real world is full of friction. It’s one full of difficulty and injustice. Jesus could have cheat-coded his way through this life and didn’t. He didn’t opt out of painful things, and he followed the way set before him all the way to the cross. And there, he shows us what it means to be deeply human. | — | ||||||

| 2/1/26 | ![]() Help My Unbelief (Mark 9:14-29) | What does it mean when we say we believe in something? The Cambridge Dictionary defines believing as “thinking that something is true, correct, or real”. We believe in things all the time, but what happens when things don’t go the way we believe they will? Whether it’s simple like sleeping through an alarm we believed would wake us up or looking at the chaos and injustice in the world around us and wondering if God is actually good. In Mark 9, we meet a father whose child has been in distress since childhood. He’s likely been let down enough times that he knows well enough not to get his hopes up. And yet, he believes in Jesus enough that he was willing to bring his son to him and ask if there is anything he can do. The invitation for us then isn’t to ignore our doubts or pretend we don’t have them in order to seem like our faith is strong. The invitation is to show up, just as we are, with all of our questions, our disappointments, and our fears. To take whatever mix of belief and doubt we have at any given moment, and to courageously and faithfully act by drawing nearer to Jesus, saying, “I believe; help my unbelief!” | — | ||||||
| 1/19/26 | ![]() To Become Like a Child (Mark 10:13-16) | A group of children are brought to Jesus so that he would bless them. Unfortunately, the disciples rebuked the adults who had brought them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant and he said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” In trying times such as these it is easy for us to be like the disciples and dismiss Jesus’ invitation to become like children. But it’s actually children that have so much to teach us about how we respond to this particular moment. Children invite us to forgive, to live with unconscious dependence, to experience wonder and awe, to live in the present, to be brave, to play and laugh and delight, to be more generous with our affection, to be curious, to become like a child. Are there things that brought you joy as a child that may be instructive to what God is inviting you to do here and now? May we leave our children a world that is a little more like the kingdom of God. | — | ||||||
| 1/12/26 | ![]() Second Wind (Mark 9:2-13) | Runner’s often experience something known as a runner’s high. At the exact moment you’re not sure you can keep going, you get a second wind. Even though you’re still running, your heart rate drops and your breathing stabilizes. It’s like you’ve tapped into a hidden source of unlimited energy and you can keep going. The Transfiguration was like that for the disciples. They saw Jesus transformed. His clothes dazzling white. He was radiant, shining with divine light. They see who Jesus is and they are amazed. But they didn’t get to stay on the mountaintop. They walked down the mountain and to face the road ahead. More mouths to feed. More strangers to shelter. More tyrants to resist. More prayers to pray. More pain to absorb. Another Tuesday morning. Yes, a glimpse of Christ’s glory can sustain us, but more than that, Jesus comes down the mountain with us, which means, we don’t have to face the hard road ahead on our own. | — | ||||||
| 1/5/26 | ![]() A Shire Psalm (Psalm 91) | Psalm 91 is not a psalm about domination, conquest, control, or certainty. It is about shelter, refuge, dwelling, and connection. It assumes that danger is real and that what we as human beings need most in this world is not rugged independence but presence and connection. Or, to use a more modern phrase, humans need secure attachment. When we call, God answers. When trouble comes, God responds. When we’re vulnerable, God remains. Nearness. Availability. Responsiveness. This is how God chooses to be known. God reveals this and models this not just so we will trust God, but so we will learn how to be with one another. If God is reachable, responsive, and present, then as people who are called to be representatives of God, we learn to become reachable, responsive, and present with one another. | — | ||||||
| 12/25/25 | ![]() Fear Not Being Alone | This year, 54% of Americans report feeling lonely. Being around people doesn’t always help. We can be in a crowded plane, classroom, or church, and still feel alone. We can be at a work party with colleagues and friends and still feel unseen. We can be gathered around a dinner table with our own families and still feel misunderstood. But the miracle we’ve gathered to remember this Christmas Eve is that through Jesus, God reminds us that we are not alone. Instead of leaving us on our own, God physically moved right into the middle of our broken, lonely world. The word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. Jesus. Immanuel. God with us. | — | ||||||
| 12/22/25 | ![]() Fear Not the Dark (John 1:5, Isaiah 9:2) | Have you ever noticed that when it's very dark, noises sound louder? Or that it’s harder to tell what’s real and what isn’t? That’s our brain trying to keep us safe by increasing our fear. And when we say things are “dark” we don’t always mean a dark room or the darkness of night. Sometimes the whole world feels shrouded in a kind of gloomy darkness. When we find ourselves in the darkness, even if we can’t see God, God will find us. The light will come to us because God, who loves us more than we could ever imagine, will search for us and find us wherever we are. Even a small glimpse of the light of Christ calms our fears and reminds us that one day the door will open all the way, the Son will come again, and all our fears will go away forever. Until that day, we live by the light we can see. The sun, shining on us. The Bible, encouraging us. Christmas, reminding us about Jesus. Our family and friends, loving us always and no matter what. | — | ||||||
