| 11/3/25 | ![]() 5.59 Back on the Field: Rhoda Smith | Barbados | Welcome back to The Help Me Abide Podcast. I am truly honored to introduce today’s guest.Joining us is Mrs. Rhoda Smith, a faithful missionary who, along with her husband Robert Smith II, has served the Lord for over thirty five years on the mission field. Together, they’ve had five children, two of whom are living, and have dedicated their lives to sharing the Gospel around the world. The Smiths began their missionary journey in Nigeria, West Africa, where God used them to start a church that continues to bear fruit to this day. From that work, around thirty people have gone out to serve in ministry, with more than sixteen currently pastoring, one serving as an evangelist, and others training in Bible college.Today, the Smiths serve faithfully in Barbados, where they have planted the St. Philip Independent Baptist Church, an inspiring ministry named for the location they serve in. God has blessed their ministry with faithful believers whose spiritual growth, as local pastors say, is “like watching a tree grow.” Slow, steady, but truly miraculous. The kind of growth that only God can bring. The Smiths have also had the joy of witnessing something rare and precious on the island, marriages. In a nation where most homes are led by single parents, they’ve seen God transform lives and families, and they’ve even had the honor of helping some couples take that beautiful step of faith together in marriage. Most importantly, through countless visits, Bible studies, and conversations, they’ve been able to share the truth of salvation by grace and the free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ with many who had never heard the message clearly before. One of Rhoda’s favorite stories is of a dear older woman who began to weep as she heard for the very first time that eternal life is a gift from God already paid for by Jesus. Moments like that remind her why she went, why she serves, and why she must keep sharing the truth. From a big day attendance of 1,200 in Nigeria to 168 in Barbados, God has proven Himself faithful every step of the way. Souls have been saved, lives transformed, and churches established where once there were none. And of course, we can’t forget some of the simple joys of life in Barbados, like macaroni pie, chicken curry, and yes, even fish: something the Smiths didn’t grow up loving, but now enjoy as a staple of island life.Oh, and one quick note before we begin. Please forgive the audio quality in this episode. We had a little trouble keeping the internet connection stable, so we actually ended up recording over the phone with the phone on speaker, held up to the microphone. But I promise, the message and the heart behind it are worth every bit of it.Are you ready to be encouraged and equipped to abide in Christ? Let’s get into the heart of today’s episode.RESOURCES:Ed Dunlop Books- BooksGeorge Muller Autobiography- Book TEAM:Podcast Facilitator - Mrs Tammy Goddard Host - Jennifer BeilSocial Media Director - Lisa Grubb Music Coordinator - Lindsey Osgood Resource Promoter - Connie MarrujoFOLLOW US:InstagramFacebookWebpageYouTube | — | ||||||
| 10/27/25 | ![]() 5.58 Back on the Field: Ashley Anglea | Madagascar | Welcome back to another episode of Help Me Abide. Today we are honored to welcome a very special guest, Mrs. Ashley Anglea, a faithful missionary serving alongside her husband, Benjamin Anglea, in the beautiful country of Madagascar. For the past 18 years, the Anglea family has poured their lives into the people of Madagascar, raising their five children there, sharing the gospel, and building a lasting ministry. Their journey began with a bold step of faith, and through God’s grace, they were able to purchase land and build a church building, establishing Faith Baptist Church. Over the years, they have seen the Lord raise up local leaders, ordaining four men, three of whom have gone out to plant new churches of their own.In 2016, Ashley's husband Ben started the Faith Baptist Bible Institute, a ministry that has equipped many men and women to grow in their knowledge of God’s Word and serve in their communities. Their work has also expanded to launching a missions program within their church, multiplying the reach of the gospel far beyond their own hands.Early on, Benjamin also founded an NGO that opened doors for their family and many other missionary families to serve legally and effectively in Madagascar. And since 2017, the Angleas have faithfully hosted teen camp each year, creating an environment where young people can experience the love that only God can provide and learn the truth of the gospel of our Saviour Jesus Christ.Ashley is a woman of deep wisdom and compassion, someone who pairs her sharp mind with a heart that longs to serve. Her favorite Malagasy dish is Varyam-anana, a comforting seasoned rice soup with greens and pork, or as she describes it, a sweet and salty fried rice biscuit. Are you ready to be encouraged and equipped to abide in Christ? | 10/20/25 | ![]() 5.57 Back on the Field: Elizabeth Speer | Ghana | Hey friends, and welcome back to Help Me Abide.Today, I have the joy and honor of welcoming someone truly special. A personal friend, a woman I deeply admire, and a true hero of the faith, Mrs. Elizabeth Speer.Elizabeth and her husband Ted Speer have served as missionaries in Ghana, West Africa, for the past 16 years. Together, they've poured their lives into the work of the Gospel, and the fruit of their labor is truly remarkable.Through their ministry, over 50 churches have been started, either directly or indirectly. Their main church averages around 700 people every Sunday, not counting daughter churches. Their Bible college, Hyles-Anderson College of West Africa, has graduated 87 students. The Christian school my husband Brett helped launch, the Fundamental Baptist Academy, has 445 students enrolled this school year. Every August, their Pastors’ and Workers’ Conference draws hundreds from across West Africa, and they currently have over 70 team members on payroll. These statistics are just the tip of the iceberg in relating the incredible ministry the Lord has built through their faithful service. But Elizabeth’s impact goes far beyond numbers. She is a woman who has faithfully embraced the priorities of each season God has led her through. She’s a steady voice of wisdom, and a beautiful example of what it looks like to abide in Christ.Elizabeth is also a proud mom to Kimberly, James, Rachel, Grace, and Michael, as well as a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law, and a precious granddaughter. And for a little taste of her Ghanaian life, quite literally, her favorite local dish is red red with pepper sauce. If you know, you know!So whether you’re folding laundry, commuting to work, or just needing encouragement in your own walk today, I pray this conversation is a blessing. Are you ready to be encouraged and equipped to abide in Christ? | 10/13/25 | ![]() 5.56 Back on the Field: Anna Russell | Papua New Guinea | Today, I’m beyond thrilled to introduce someone who is not only a missionary hero of the faith, but a personal friend and role model, Anna Russell.Anna is a seasoned missionary who, alongside her husband Jason Russell, has served the people of Papua New Guinea for an incredible 25 years. She’s a mother of five, a teacher, a soul winner, and a living testimony of what it looks like to faithfully abide in Christ through the decades. One of the many things I love about Anna is the beautiful balance she carries: a quiet strength wrapped in humble submission. Whether you're sitting across the table from her or reading an update letter from their time on the mission field, you sense the presence of a woman who truly walks with God. I treasure every moment I get to spend with her.Over the years, the Lord has used Anna and her family in mighty ways. They’ve started 13 churches across Papua New Guinea. Their ministry has seen incredible transformation stories, like Brother Eddie, Brother Aaron, and Brother Busman. All once lost in addiction, now saved, discipled, and pastoring churches themselves. One of the most exciting ministries they’re involved in is CRE, Christian Religious Education, a public school outreach that brings Biblical teaching to children weekly, sowing seeds that are already bearing fruit. And yes, for those wondering Anna’s favorite local dish, its coconut sago stick with hot milk tea and deer stew.Today, we’re going to hear about Anna’s journey, the ups and down of the mission field, and how she continues to find strength in abiding with Jesus—every single day. You are going to be encouraged by the heart and life of Anna Russell. So, are you ready to be encouraged and equipped to abide in Christ? Her life is a beautiful example of faithfulness, balance, and ministry in action.Sabrina has served as a missionary in Nigeria for the past 20 years alongside her husband, Mark Holmes. Together, they’re raising six wonderful children while wholeheartedly investing in the ministry God has given them.Sabrina is a woman who wears many hats with grace. She’s a loving wife and dedicated mother, yet she’s also actively involved in the work of the ministry. Her heart for the ladies in her church shines brightly, and she has a passion for walking alongside women and helping them grow in their faith.Through their ministry, God has done some truly incredible things. Over 200 seminary graduates have been trained and have gone on to start 54 churches. They’ve launched 8 youth camps across 6 different countries and have hosted 6 annual pastors’ conferences. | 9/29/25 | ![]() 5.54 Back on the Field: Martha Kinyonga | Tanzania | Today’s episode is really special. One of those conversations that sticks with you, encourages you, and challenges you all at the same time. Our guest is Martha Kinyonga. She and her husband, Mshama, have been serving as missionaries in Tanzania since 2013. They’ve got four amazing kids: Esther, Benjamin, Rachel, and Sarah. And they’ve truly given their lives to the people there.Back in 2014, they started Grace Baptist Church withjust six people. Now, that church averages over 400, and just this August they celebrated their 11th anniversary with more than 1,200 people in attendance. Isn’t that incredible? But that’s just part of the story. They’ve also launched a BibleInstitute, planted three village churches, and poured into theircommunity in countless ways. One story I love is about a little girl who got saved at their Saturday Bible Club. She started coming to church, her life changed, her mom noticed and came with her and she got saved. Then her dad came, got saved, and later realized he and his wife weren’t actually married so Mshama performed their wedding. That’s just one of so many ways God is working through their ministry.Martha is the kind of person who makes you feel at home immediately she loves coconut rice and coconut chicken, and I’m just saying… I’d love a seat at her table enjoying her favorite dish with her someday. But what really stands out about Martha is her joy even in the middle of deep suffering. Martha has stage 4 cancer. And honestly, you wouldn’t even know it unless you asked, she barely mentions it. Her illness doesn’t define her. Her love for Jesus and her deep commitment to His work, that’s what defines her. I admire her so much, and I think you will too.So, are you ready to be encouraged and equipped to abide in Christ? Today, we are absolutely thrilled to introduce a very special guest, Kelly DeMoville, a missionary to the Philippines.Kelly, along with her husband Randy, has been faithfully serving in the Philippines for the past 15 years. Together, they’ve built a ministry from the ground up, starting in a place where they didn’t know a single soul. Today, their work is flourishing. From weekly soul-winning efforts that see nearly 100 people saved every Thursday, to a thriving Bible College that is training up the next generation of church leaders, Kelly and her family are making an eternal impact. They now have a local church that supports over 40 Filipino missionaries, runs a radio station that has a companion app that reaches listeners around the world, and recently gave over 1.4 million pesos to missions through Faith Promise giving. Their first convert is now their children's pastor. Talk about fruit that remains. And if that’s not enough, Kelly is a devoted wife to Randy, a proud mom of 10 amazing kids, a mother-in-law, and grandma to two sweet little granddaughters. Her love for her family is deep rooted, her spirit is kind and compassionate, and her heart for God’s work is deeply inspiring. When she’s not busy changing lives, you might just find her enjoying some lumpia, chicken adobo, or the sweetest mangos and pineapple the Philippines has to offer. So, are you ready to be encouraged and equipped to abide in Christ? | 9/15/25 | ![]() 5.52 Back on the Field: Gerri Johnson | Brazil | I have the honor, the absolute honor, of introducing someone who’s not just a guest, but a living, breathing modern-day missionary hero. Gerri Johnson has been a missionary in Brazil for over 50 years. Yes, you heard that right five decades of serving, loving, and pouring her life into the people of Brazil. That kind of longevity in missions is rare, almost legendary. It’s not just dedication it’s legacy. And speaking of legacy, the fruit of her life’s work is nothing short of dream-worthy. Three of her children are also missionaries in Brazil, and her youngest son is now serving as their pastor. I mean, come on if that’s not a dream come full circle, I don’t know what is.She and her husband, Dan Johnson, have lived a life of quiet faithfulness that continues to echo across generations. Just recently, Dan had the privilege of preaching at a conference in a church where they served for 17 years. A church they left 20 years ago. And get this: not only were the original converts still there, still faithful; but, now their children are grown and faithfully serving in that same church. I am sure that brought such a sense of fulfillment to their souls.Gerri’s not just someone I admire, she’s someone I want to be like. I want what she has. Her joy. Her faithfulness. Her quiet strength. Her impact.Oh, and before we jump in, let’s not forget: Gerri is also a fan of Brazil’s traditional dish, feijoada. A rich, savory black bean stew with pork. Though… she’ll take it with the “noble cuts,” thank you very much. Not so much the pig’s feet and tail. 😅 (Honestly, I’m with her on that one!)So, are you ready to be encouraged and equipped to abide in Christ? | 9/8/25 | ![]() 5.51 Back on the Field: Misty Wilder | Guatemala | Today, I’m introducing you to a very special guest: Misty Wilder. Misty is a missionary who, alongside her husband Daniel, has been serving faithfully in Guatemala for the past 20 years. Together, they’ve raised seven children on the mission field, planted churches, and poured their lives into the people of Chimaltenango and beyond.Misty is a deep thinker, someone who clearly loves God, loves her family, and carries a quiet strength and joy that really shines through. She’s thoughtful, joyful, and in our conversation, you’ll hear how God has worked in her heart, in her ministry, and in the lives of those around her.Over the years, the Wilders have helped start nine churches, including their main work in Chimaltenango. That church has seen big Sundays with over 500 people in attendance, though most weeks, it’s around 150 to 200.One amazing story Misty shared with me after we finished recording was about a young man they reached while he was in a correctional facility. His father had struggled with alcoholism, but for the sake of his son, he started coming to church. His life was completely changed. That young man later married a girl who had come down to help the Wilders, and today, he’s pastoring a church in Oklahoma. Isn’t that incredible? And just for fun—Misty’s favorite food in Guatemala is estofado. It’s a saucy, tomato-based dish eaten with rice. It can be made with chicken, beef, or pork, along with plenty of vegetables. It sounds delicious! This episode is honest, full of wisdom, and a real encouragement for anyone in ministry. Or for anyone just trying to follow God faithfully, wherever He leads. So, are you ready to be encouraged and equipped to abide in Christ?
