It sounds heavy—and it is—but it is incredibly important. Today, we have to start at the absolute root. We are talking about selfishness, because selfishness is the underlying sin beneath almost every other relationship problem.

Worship comes from the old Anglo-Saxon word “weorthship” which means “being worthy.” In this connection all of the Christian life becomes worship. Every act of obedience to God states from the depth of your being, “Lord, you are worth this.” In this sense, all of life should become a continuous offer of worship to God. The home is where this all begins as Christians endeavor to live out their marriages in the shadow of the Cross.

While your past and present sin might drive you further from God, it doesn’t necessarily drive Him further from you. This is the message of Christmas: God has drawn near to those who have drawn away from Him, and those who have been drawn away from Him.
