I Remember Liking That Movie

Do you remember The Outsiders from 1983? We sure thought we did. Gangs. A bunch of ridiculously handsome future movie stars. A famous book. That's pretty much the entire contents of our memory banks. So we sat down to revisit this classic and answer the important question: How does a movie about violent gangs manage to be remembered for its pretty boys instead of its fights?

Remember The Untouchables from 1987 starring Kevin Costner & Sean Connery? We remember it being the bee's knees. A real hotsy-totsy gangster picture where every problem could be solved with a quick quip & a Tommy Gun. Every scene is packed with tough mugs, and enough lead flying around Chicago to start a scrap metal shortage. We remember Robert De Niro's Al Capone being one scary palooka, and our good guys trying to clean up the town one wise guy at a time. But is this Prohibition-era classic still the cat's pajamas, or has it gone the way of bathtub gin and twenty-cent cigars? So grab your fedora, tell the coppers to take a hike, and join us as we revisit The Untouchables to find out if this old-time gangster flick still packs a wallop.

We rewatched Firewalker… and yeah, it’s not exactly how we remembered. Action & Adventure? Yes. Budget? Not so much.

Remember Cliffhanger? Suitcases full of money fall out of the sky, a bunch of criminals decide mountain climbing is now part of their career path, and Stallone spends two hours dangling from things that were never meant to hold a human being.So join us as we head back to the ’90s — when action heroes didn’t need CGI, villains had accents for no reason, and the solution to every problem was either punching it… shooting it… or letting it fall off a cliff.

Remember Better Off Dead? The 1985 fever dream starring John Cusack gave us ski-race rivalries, the guy who played Booger, Ricky’s mom casually blowing up during dinner, and a paperboy who’s built his entire personality around two dollars.We think we loved this movie. We’re pretty sure we quoted it. But does it actually hold up… or were we just 80s kids dazzled by stop-motion hamburgers and teenage melodrama? Join us as we head back to the slopes and find out if this cult classic is still comedy gold or if we’ve been owed a refund all along.

Do you remember Hot Dog… The Movie from the ’80s? We do, and we don’t. We remember Shannon Tweed (for obvious reasons) and the Chinese Downhill. That’s about it. This movie was actually a hit in its day, which makes us wonder: was it because of the skiing… or because this ’80s film got really generous with the nudity? Either way, it should be wall-to-wall ’80s stereotypes, bad taste, and zero restraint. Which raises the big question: does it hold up… or completely wipe out?

Remember SpaceCamp from the 80s? A bunch of kids go to Space Camp and get blown into space on accident for real. Good times. We remember it being fun, thrilling, and full of comedy and drama. Remember Trading Places (1983), starring Eddie Murphy, Dan Aykroyd, and Jamie Lee Curtis? We had practically forgotten all about this early-’80s comedy, but even the trailer promises a whole lot of political incorrectness, and we couldn’t be more excited. We remember it being hilarious, but has time been kind to this comical social commentary, or has it curdled into an outdated relic? Either way, we’re all in.
