| 11/6/23 | ![]() Life Without a Tie: Finding your path amidst the noise | with Ray Martin | Life Without a Tie: Finding your path amidst the noise, chaos and pressure to conform. We don't always recognise the subtleties at play in our reality. Even when we do, we don't necessarily validate them as being significant. In this podcast between Thom Dennis and Ray Martin, they discuss the nature of synchronicity - why and how events that are unexpected can sometimes have a Universal perfection. They explore how committing to acts of service, however small, can lead to new beginnings and how life can provide us with 'confirmation signals' when we face difficult decisions, connecting with a higher form of guidance. Thom asked Ray to expand upon his 'Six Rules for Happiness', which include taking ownership for everything that happens to us, and the benefits of building powerful and sustainable relationships. It takes courage to live consciously, and Ray has discovered that trends such as minimalism and experientialism are on the rise as people try to simplify life in a complex world. They also touch on the leadership crisis of our generation, the nature of purpose and how it might find us, if and when we surrender to it, and what it means to be present. A lot to enjoy! | 10/18/23 | ![]() Psychiatry, Mental Wellbeing, Empathy & Power | with Dr Sridevi Kalidindi CBE | Psychiatry, Mental Wellbeing, Empathy & Power Skills in the Workplace. What made you become a psychiatrist? You're the founder and CEO of Clip Global, which is a workforce, wellbeing and development service where you provide employees with personalized holistic. science-backed plans so they can lead healthier, fulfilled lives. It sounds incredible, but how do you go about fulfilling that brief? I guess you're using AI now and developing it if you're using an app, how do you see that developing with AI? Do you think that mental health is the new pandemic? Do you think really that there's an increasing number of leaders who are beginning to genuinely care more about their employees and see why that is so important to the business for preventing people from being off sick, but for things that you can't necessarily see? Can you say a little bit more about the key life indicators, what they are and how you're monitoring and keeping a close look on them? You'd like to think that there are more leaders taking the right action. What do you think we need to do to persuade those that perhaps don't really see the need for this, in spite of the fact that the stats as far as the bottom line are concerned are pretty persuasive? It seems there's a lot of leaders who still don't want to really engage with that. So how could we persuade them to be more involved and take a greater level of responsibility? Do CEOs find it a bit scary to engage with an organization which is led by a psychiatrist? How important do you think being empathetic is now for people in positions of responsibility? Have you come across the fact that there are reports of AI showing more empathy than humans? Is hybrid working detrimental to the need to belong to a community? What do you think it is that's making people (managers) resist the hybrid working as a model? There are two types of leadership, the older more directive style and the newer servant leader style. So do you see the latter style of leadership emerging more today? How important is the skill of presence in leadership? So just to round things up, can you give us say three tips on how leaders can improve, how they help employees with their mental health? | — | ||||||
| 10/5/23 | ![]() Healthy Masculinity and Gender Equity | with Ray Arata | Ray Arata is the author of two books, Wake Up Man Up, Step Up: Transforming Your Wake Up Call to Emotional Health and Happiness and Showing Up: How Men Can Become Effective Allies in the Workplace. As an expert in leadership, inclusion, allyship, and emotional literacy, Ray leads from his heart and practices what he teaches in his own businesses and personal life. In this interview, he describes what first made him interested in the field of men and masculinity. Thom & Ray then go on to the term 'toxic' and explore how unhelpful it is in terms of masculinity; 'unhealthy' is a much better description which doesn't close everyone down. They discuss how important is it not to shame and blame men in order to get them to engage. There is enormous pain in so many men and shaming has only negative consequences. On the other hand gender equality will make men better and happier. Ray connects through the heart, and speaks about what love means to him. Finally they discuss allyship and the fundamental importance of accountability. The Better Together Conference will be held online Oct 18-19, 2023 and those liking this video and contacting us at hello@serenityinleadership.com will be offered a 10% reduction in the cost of attendance. | 10/5/23 | ![]() What is Manly? | with Damian Andrews | This episode is now live, here is a blurb about the podcast that Thom guested on: Men feel more lonely, lost and not useful in society than ever in history. Men are more likely to be romantically uninvolved, sexually dormant and friendless. Only 40% of men have higher education and educated women don’t date uneducated men. Males are not attaching to school, work or women. What it is to be a man appears lost. ‘What is Manly?’ host Damian Andrews searches for the framework to be Manly. "There was an anger that came out and frankly, it was very scary being in that room at that time, as a man." In this episode Men being confused Women missing out Women doing better Fear of anger Men questing their role Not making assumptions Teaching boundaries Checking things are ok The 'Hell Yes!' Wheel of consent Addictions Frustration Dealing with rejection Safe spaces Please help others by liking and sharing on your social so they also get the benefits you've enjoyed. | 9/30/22 | ![]() Acknowledging Burnout | with Yewande Faloyin | We want to do the best we can but at the same time we are facing more and more challenges. People are feeling the pressure to perform with many things calling us to action. The easier answer is to work harder and harder, but what we are increasingly seeing is that we are not able to cope anymore; our bodies are only capable of doing so much. How do we recognise this burnout out? How do we deal with it? What is clear is that hiding it doesn't work; we have to face up to it and we have to re-prioritize, both as businesses and as individuals. | — | ||||||

| 9/28/22 | ![]() TFTW: Remote Employee Monitoring Software | The Bargain - Remote Employee Monitoring Software and their subjects, welcoming & resistant. Remote Employee Monitoring Software has proliferated. There are now eight of the top 10 US employers by number of employees, private employers - companies that hire huge numbers of people, doing some form of individual employee productivity monitoring, in many cases in real time. This is a controversial strategy which some people find intrusive and insulting whilst others find a boon. It can be argued that using such software destroys trust and actually encourages the behaviour it is designed to eradicate. | — | ||||||

| 9/28/22 | ![]() TFTW: How to get the best out of Rebels | Organisations need rebels - they bring challenge, innovation, creativity. But they are often the most difficult to manage and because of that, they are often pushed out of the organisation when they were actually really needed. It pays to find ways to include these people - they bring the future with them. What do you think? Please add your thoughts in the comments. #rebel #rebellion #revolution #revolutionary #change #organization #leadership | — | ||||||
| 9/28/22 | ![]() TFTW: Taking a Stand for Rainforests | Taking a Stand for Rainforests, Indigenous People & Climate Change - Being a Leader & Taking Action. Leaders are under such enormous pressure to run their companies how they always have - there are so many priorities, indeed many more than there were before the pandemic, before Brexit, before the invasion of Ukraine. And at the same time, one of the largest carbon sinks on earth, which is occupied by indigenous people, the Amazon Rainforest is under threat by commercial interests. Things have to change, priorities have to change, and this takes courage. Leaders have to show courage in the face of short term pressures. | — | ||||||

| 9/28/22 | ![]() TFTW: Leadership in Times of War | What is it about Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his style of leadership that makes it so resonant and admirable for so many people today. Could it be that it is a projection of how we want our leaders to be? He is a role model for us in our times of chaos, change and uncertainty. Courage, vulnerability, steadfastness in adversity, transparency are all traits we long for in our leaders, and seem to see so little of today. Clarity, strength, honesty, authenticity, these are all things we seek when uncertainty arouses fear. In this Thought for the Week Thom Dennis mentions FemmeQ, a community of thought leaders, change makers, social activists and business leaders committed to creating new paradigms of thinking and acting in core sectors of society. The webinar he refers to is here: https://lnkd.in/eHYKfZJB and we commend it to all who are interested in the concept of #FeminineIntelligence. | 9/28/22 | ![]() TFTW: Power vs Compassion | There are many examples of people in power doing things to suit their own needs, either to stay in favour with those with greater power, or to satisfy their own ego needs. There is much collateral damage which is caused as a result, and we are now seeing this style of disrespectful leadership being increasingly challenged. It's clear that what we need in order to be successful, in the widest but most relevant meaning of the word, is to be vulnerable, empathetic, compassionate and continuously maintain a listening stance. | — | ||||||
| 9/28/22 | ![]() TFTW: The Great Awkward | The Great Awkward - Thom Dennis on hybrid working challenges and The Great Awkward Return to Work. It's a little early to tell about the success of hybrid working. It's a much more complex situation than at first appears, containing new issues that leadership have not encountered before. What is important is for leaders to understand the various issues that are arising so they can make informed and positive decisions in order to get the very best from this dynamic situation, whilst ensuring that no-one is left behind or out. We're now in what Brené Brown has christened "The Great Awkward return to work" #Greatawkward #leadership #hybridworking #hybrid #SiLeadership #serenityinleadership #inclusion #meetings | — | ||||||
| 9/28/22 | ![]() TFTW: The Importance of Trust | Issues around trust abound today. Leaders who try to force their strategies and ideologies reduce their people's trust which tends to encourage them to force more. In order to create trust, you have to create a space in which people feel safe because when they feel safe, they can be vulnerable. Trust comes from vulnerability and vulnerability comes from trust. #trust #leadership #serenityinleadership #vulnerability | — | ||||||

Thom Dennis explores some of the key aspects of bias in business decision making in organisations and gives some pointers as to how to make your investment worth while - it may not be what you think but bias in organization has so much potential if tackled. #bias #biasinorganisation #biasindecision #biasinterrupted #leadership #inclusion | — | ||||||
