He had immediate success at Coe College, finishing as a DIII national runner-up his freshman year. After a 5th place finish as a sophomore, Clayton won back-to-back titles to cement himself as an all-time great. He’s since been inducted into the Coe College Athletics Hall of Fame, a feat he shares with his wife. It was also recently announced that Clayton will be inducted into the 2026 NCAA DIII Men’s Hall of Fame class. To top it off, he’ll be joined by his college coach, John Oostendorp.
