Music by Coma-Media from https://pixabay.com/music//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=12099">PixabayMusic by Yurii Kohut from https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=121519">PixabayMusic by Lesfm from https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=5718">PixabayMusic by Musictown from https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=22140">PixabayMusic by Roman Senyk from PixabayMusic by OB-LIX from https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=109862">PixabayMusic by Alexander Shwarzborg from PixabayMusic by Oleg Kirilkov from https://pixabay.com/music//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=110485">PixabayMusic by Amaksi from https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=117637">Pixabay | — | ||||||

| 11/24/25 | ![]() The Life Story of Dinah and Alan Katler-Episode 4 | Dinah and Alan Katler were both born in Chicago to families who had immigrated from Europe, fleeing war and antisemitism.Dinah grew up surrounded by a close-knit extended family — aunts, uncles, and cousins who gathered regularly. She was social from the start, loved school, took part in countless activities, and from a young age was known for one thing in particular: she loved to talk.Since childhood—and still today—Dinah has been someone who loves to learn, always drawing life lessons from every experience.Alan also grew up in a loving family, but his childhood came with significant challenges. His father became ill while Alan was in high school, leading him to leave school for two years to help support the family. His parents later divorced, and Alan sadly lost his father in his early twenties.Still, Alan found joy and confidence in sports, in friendships, and eventually in returning to finish school. After graduating high school and spending a short time in university, he joined the army — an experience he looks back on with many amusing stories and gratitude for the fact he drafted just in time.In their early twenties, Alan and Dinah met. The story of how they met—and how that first date actually went—depends on whom you ask. Nonetheless before long, they were engaged, married, and building a home and a life togetherTheir shared life includes many pieces: Alan’s long and successful career in sales, interestingly starting with an insult, Dinah’s years of dedicated volunteer work for Jewish causes, their gradual growth and change within the religious world, what could almost be called Alan’s athletic semi-career in racquetball and raising three beloved children, creating the foundation for the extremely close family they treasure today. A family, a community life, activism, traveling the world and a partnership that stayed steady through every chapter. This is the story of Dinah and Alan Katler told over 4 episodes.Soundtrack Credits:Music by Praz Khanal from PixabayMusic by Lesfm from PixabayMusic by Oleg Kirilkov from PixabayMusic by Coma-Media from PixabayMusic by Geoff Harvey from PixabayMusic by Julius H. from Pixabay | — | ||||||

A family, a community life, activism, traveling the world and a partnership that stayed steady through every chapter. This is the story of Dinah and Alan Katler told over 4 episodes.Soundtrack credits:Music by Dmitry Taras from PixabayMusic by folk_acoustic from PixabayMusic by Coma-Media from https://pixabay.com/music//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=12099">PixabayMusic by Yurii Kohut from https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=121519">PixabayMusic by Musictown from https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=22140">Pixabay | — | ||||||

| 4/30/25 | ![]() The Life Story of Carol Lee Loebenberg - Episode 2 | Carol Lee Loebenberg has built her full and diverse life based on her sincere belief in the values of community and kindness. Starting when she and her husband were a young married couple, her home has become an open house every Shabbat, hosting tens of guests on a regular basis. As of the date of this recording, this tradition has been going on for over 60 years.Growing up in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, Carol Lee’s parents were her role models. They were devoted parents and deeply involved in their community. Her father, who felt a strong need to contribute to society when he couldn’t participate in the war, took the initiative to lead a social housing project that made a meaningful difference. While studying at university in Halifax, Carol Lee met her future husband, Ralph Loebenberg, a medical student. She laughs that she was "the cheapest date on campus" — a cup of coffee was always enough. They married and chose to settle in Halifax, a decision that wasn't obvious at the time. With no Jewish day school, it posed challenges. But the Jewish community was strong and close-knit, and by intentionally living near Ralph’s workplace, they gained something invaluable: precious family time. Looking back, Carol Lee is certain — the choice they made blossomed into a life richer than they ever could have imagined.Carol Lee became a devoted volunteer and leader in the community, taking on key roles at the shul, including leading major projects and running the shul kitchen for over 40 years. In addition to her work at the synagogue, Carol Lee, along with a few friends, spearheaded a major initiative: bringing the World Figure Skating Championships to Halifax. Their success was remarkable: they sold thousands of tickets and raised a million dollars, which went toward building a community ice rink — making skating accessible to all.Life in the unique location of Halifax led to many unexpected events and encounters throughout Carol Lee’s life. Guided by a deep belief in human connection and kindness, Carol Lee found herself taking part in many fascinating experiences over the years. At the age of 69, Ralph, Carol Lee’s husband, passed away after a battle with cancer. Just as he had been throughout his life — as a doctor, a family man, and a dedicated member of the community — Ralph remained a source of inspiration even in his final struggle. From a young girl growing up in Yarmouth Nova Scotia with a small Jewish social group sharing interesting experiences, to a young teenager travelling to Israel seeking a deeper connection to Jewish life, to a devoted wife who moves to America for two challenging years with her husband who was drafted as a doctor during the Vietnam war, to a dedicated mother and community leader in Halifax, to a grandmother and great grandmother who treasures her deep bonds with family, friends, and community , this is the story of Carol Lee Loebenberg."https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=121519">Pixabay"https://pixabay.com/music//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=12099">Pixabay"https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=117637">PixabayMusic by folk_acoustic from Pixabay"https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=22140">Pixabay"https://pixabay.com/music//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=132333">PixabayMusic by Jonas from PixabayMusic by Alexander Shwarzborg from PixabayMusic by Dmitry Taras from Pixabay | — | ||||||

| 12/17/24 | ![]() The Life Story of Elsa Wilen | Elsa Wilen grew up in Bogota Colombia. When her Hungarian born, adventurous father decided to leave Europe he went to the dock, saw two ships about to leave, one to Morocco and one to Colombia, and randomly chose the voyage bound to South America. Growing up in Colombia in a traditional Jewish family, but not always able to go to Jewish schools, Elsa recalls how in the catholic elementary school she attended she would be sent by the teacher to the chapel, "to pay attention to Jesus" as she puts it. That was until someone told Elsa's mother and she put a stop to that. As a child, Elsa laughs, she was disappointed that her nice little daily alone time out of class was cancelled. At 15 Elsa moves with her grandparents to Israel, excited as a young teenager to be having this new and cool adventure. She enrolls in a dormitory school but then soon starts to feel that this move was a big mistake. That adventure lasted 6 months and then she came home. Later as a young adult living in New York, working and enjoying the city life, she meets her future husband and is married within months of the move to the United States. Her female colleagues at work were in shock. From a young child growing up in Bogota Colombia, witnessing the 1948 violent riots after the assassination of the Liberal party leader, having her parent's shop ransacked, and then a month later quietly celebrating with the rest of the Jewish community the declaration of the state of Israel, to a teenager, studying in the very demanding French school in the area, accumulating the equivalent of a few years of college education while still in high school, to a young adult, living in New York and taking advantage of all that city life can offer, to a young mother, that at first felt like an older sister to her eldest daughter, raising 3 children, building the foundation for their close family relationship, to a manager of a company she and her husband bought a little over a decade before retirement, to a grandmother and great grandmother who says with a smile that grandchildren are the profits you get from all your early investments, this is the story of Elsa Wilen.
