November 1985, Germany: Elizabeth Ratliff found dead at bottom of stairs - Peterson was last to see her alive, adopted her two orphaned daughters. December 2001, North Carolina: Wife Kathleen Peterson found dead at bottom of stairs in pool of blood - seven lacerations to her head. Peterson's 911 call: "My wife had an accident. She's still breathing." She wasn't. Police discovered Peterson's secret bisexual affairs, financial troubles, and lies about his military record.
