This week on Peanuts and Popcorn, we open with the Peanuts as we mourn the passing of Tommy John. The Crosstown Classic is wrapped for 2026, with the Cubs taking two of three from the Sox at Wrigley and Pete Crow‑Armstrong further cementing his case for National League MVP. Tom officially bids farewell to the Tigers’ 2026 season.In the Popcorn, we’ve got two excellent films to break down. We begin with Tom’s selection, Brian De Palma’s stylishthriller Body Double (1984). This week on Peanuts and Popcorn, we return from our summer break with a quick wrap‑up of the FIFA World Cup. We start with Leo’s suggestion, American Gangster (2007), starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe and directed by Ridley Scott. This week on the final P&P film reviews of the 2025 season, we begin with the Peanuts as we lament the losses of the Tigers and Cubs in the post-season. In Popcorn, we have two excellent movies to review, The Killing of a Chinese Bookie (1976), by John Cassavetes, and the retelling of the Greek myth, Orpheus and Eurydice, Black Orpheus (1959). We will also recap the list of films we’ve reviewed this year ahead of the third Annual “Poppie” awards next week to close out the 2025 season.

They meet in Detroit for a mid-season preview of a possible World Series matchup. We then pivot to Popcorn with critiques of two more moviesthat we think might be worth your time.
