About this episode
The episode discusses the implications of the U.S. military's attack on Venezuela and the surrounding geopolitical tensions in 2026.
The year 2026 has opened with a literal bang. The U.S. military, under President Trump’s orders, attacked the sovereign nation of Venezuela and captured its democratically elected President, Nicholas Maduro, along with his wife, flying them out of the country. Statements from Russia, Brazil, and Mexico have already been issued, condemning the attack and insisting that further escalation be prevented. They recommended focusing on a way out of the situation through dialogue. Brazilian President Lula said the attack “crosses the line of what is unacceptable. These acts represent a very serious affront to Venezuela's sovereignty and set another extremely dangerous precedent for the international community.” ”Attacking countries in flagrant violation of international law,” he continued “is the first step toward a world of violence, chaos, and instability, where the law of the strongest prevails over multilateralism.” This illegal attack follows the just-thwarted attempt by Ukraine, or NATO forces acting in the form of Ukraine, to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin at his residence on the evening of Dec. 29th. The situation has been further compounded by the New Year’s Eve…
