| 3/30/26 | ![]() Neighbour Day 2026 | Full Interview with Costa Georgiadis (Gardening Australia) | In a world that’s never been more connected, more Australians than ever are feeling lonely. This Sunday (March 29) is Neighbour Day — a national call to reconnect with the people around us and build stronger, more supportive communities. In this full-length conversation, Matty J from Radio Goolarri sits down with Costa Georgiadis — host of Gardening Australia and long-time Neighbour Day Ambassador — for a warm, honest, and practical chat about connection, community, and what it really means to belong. 💬 One in four Australians report feeling lonely 💬 Among young adults, it’s closer to one in three Costa shares: The powerful story that inspired his involvement in Neighbour Day How modern life and technology are quietly disconnecting us Why small, everyday interactions matter more than big gestures Simple, practical ways to get to know your neighbours How connection builds over time — and why it’s worth the effort From sharing homegrown food to simply saying hello, this conversation is a reminder that community doesn’t just happen — it’s something we create together. As Costa puts it: “We are a neighbour every day. It’s not just one Sunday in March.” 🌱 Neighbour Day 2026 Theme: Belonging Every Day 👉 Find ideas and get involved: https://neighbourseveryday.org 🎙️ Interview with Matty J 📻 Radio Goolarri — Broome / Kimberley | — | ||||||
| 3/16/26 | ![]() Sandy Dann IV with Taryn the Shell Lady 130326 | Broome’s very own Taryn “The Shell Lady” Ryan joins Sandy Dann in the studio to talk about something we’re all seeing more of along our coastline — rubbish and microplastics washing up on our beaches. While Taryn is usually known for sharing her love of shells and marine life, this conversation focuses on the environmental challenges facing our local beaches and oceans. In this interview, Taryn explains how microplastics — tiny fragments of plastic smaller than a centimetre — are increasingly being found along the high tide line on Broome beaches, particularly after storms and rough weather. Unlike organic materials that break down naturally, plastic breaks apart but never fully disappears, remaining in the ecosystem and even entering the food chain. Taryn also highlights the impact plastic has on marine life including turtles, dugongs and molluscs, which can mistake plastic for food or encounter it in their environment. The conversation also explores: • Why rubbish washes up even in remote areas • Fishing waste like bait bags and plastic bottles found on beaches • The importance of picking up rubbish whenever we see it • Community clean-ups organised by Tangaroa Blue • How everyday people can contribute to science through the iNaturalist app Taryn encourages everyone to take pride in caring for Country and our coastline: “Take the rubbish away, and leave the shells.” A simple message that helps protect the small creatures that rely on shells for survival and keeps our beaches healthy for future generations. | — | ||||||

| 3/16/26 | ![]() Matty J Interview with Sean Cooper – Spoke To A Bloke | Walk for a Bloke Broome 160326 | Matty J from Radio Goolarri chats with Sean Cooper, Broome ambassador for Spoke To A Bloke, about the upcoming Walk for a Bloke and the important work being done to support men’s mental health in Broome, the Kimberley and beyond. Spoke To A Bloke began after the tragic loss of a loved one named Nick, a larger-than-life character who used to organise a 25km walk each year with his mates as a way of bringing blokes together. What started as Nick’s Walk has now grown into a global movement encouraging men to check in on their mates and speak up when they’re struggling. Sean shares powerful stories about the walk, how it started right here in Broome, and how the event now takes place across Australia and around the world. The walk isn’t just about the distance – it’s about creating space for men to talk, support each other and break the stigma around mental health. This year’s Walk for a Bloke kicks off in Broome from Men’s Outreach Service on Hamersley Street, with a 25km route around town – though participants can walk as much or as little as they like. Whether you walk in Broome or wherever you are in the world, the message is simple: Check in with your mates. Speak to a bloke. | 3/12/26 | ![]() Cherie Sibosado (Aarnja CEO) | Kimberley Clean Energy Forum & Women’s Refuge 120326 | Radio Goolarri’s Sandy Dann speaks with Cherie Sibosado, CEO of Aarnja Ltd, about several important initiatives happening across the Kimberley — including the upcoming Kimberley Aboriginal Clean Energy Forum and community consultations for the new Broome Women’s Refuge. The inaugural Kimberley Aboriginal Clean Energy Forum will bring together representatives from remote communities, government, industry and energy providers to talk about the future of clean energy, solar infrastructure and energy security for Kimberley communities. The forum is an opportunity for Aboriginal communities to be part of the decision-making process as Australia transitions to renewable energy. Cherie explains how community voices will help guide what energy solutions work best in remote areas — including options such as solar power, microgrids and community-owned energy infrastructure, which can create local jobs, economic opportunities and long-term sustainability. The conversation also highlights the community consultation process for the new Broome Women’s Refuge, which is inviting locals to share their ideas about the design, cultural safety and support services needed to better support women and children experiencing family and domestic violence. Cherie also speaks about the AarnjaFoundation Future Fund, which has been established to reinvest into Kimberley communities through grants and support for local initiatives. It’s a great yarn about community leadership, partnerships and the positive work being led across the Kimberley to create safer and more sustainable futures for our mob. | — | ||||||
| 3/10/26 | ![]() Sandy Dann in Conversation with Kelly Francis – Broome Women’s Refuge Community Consultations 090326 | Radio Goolarri’s Sandy Dann chats with Kelly Francis, Executive Strategic Engagement Officer with Aarnja, about upcoming community consultations for the new Broome Women’s Refuge. The Department of Communities has committed to building a new refuge for women and children in Broome, and the community is being invited to have their say on what the new service should look like. Kelly explains how locals can get involved in the consultation process, share their ideas, and help shape important aspects of the refuge including design, safety, cultural considerations, and wraparound support services. The first consultation session will take place at Lottery House (Hall 1) from 9am – 12pm, with more sessions planned through to May. Community members can also contribute through anonymous surveys, QR codes, or direct contact if they can’t attend in person. The current refuge has only four bedrooms and regularly operates at capacity, with more than 400 people turned away last year due to lack of space, highlighting the importance of community input into this new facility. 📞 For more information or to contribute, contact Kelly Francis on 9192 2361. | — | ||||||
