About this episode

This mini-episode explores the practice of Christian meditation and its role in drawing closer to God during Lent.

In its simplest explanation, meditation is centering our minds and hearts on the presence of God so that He can bring transformation in us, often in the form of repentance and obedience. It is both listening and responding. With fasting, we talk about withholding something in our lives so that we can replace it with something meaningful that re-centers us on the presence of God. Meditation is similar. While some forms of meditation emphasize emptying the mind or detaching from pain and hardship, Christian meditation begins with detachment but does not end there. Detachment is only the first step, attachment is the second. We lay down our day to day chaos, our questions, and the busyness of our minds, and we allow the presence of God, the living, breathing Holy Spirit, to fill us. We turn our attention toward Him. Most importantly, meditation draws us into personal intimacy with our Father. It awakens us to the reality that He is closer than the air we breathe. Listen in for a meditation practice to engage with this Lent.
