About this episode

Vic Meyers discusses the importance of engaging voters in so-called 'safe districts' and critiques the focus on redistricting maps over meaningful conversations.

Politicians love talking about redistricting maps. I’m more interested in the people living inside those lines. This idea that voters in “safe districts” are automatically locked in is part of what got us into this mess in the first place. Democrats stopped showing up for rural America years ago. Republicans learned they could win by simply reminding voters of that fact while slowly disappearing themselves.Meanwhile, both parties obsess over maps instead of conversations.I’m not running that kind of campaign. This district may be considered “safe” by political consultants and strategists, but the people living here are not political statistics. They’re voters who deserve to be listened to, whether they’re Democrats, Republicans, independents, ranchers, teachers, veterans, or somebody living at the end of a dirt road most politicians never bother driving down. That’s where democracy is supposed to happen.Support me at Vic Meyers for Democracy This is a public episode.
