Altitude training has always been a hot topic for middle distance and distance runners. Many of the world’s best runners spend large chunks of the year at altitude, sucking in that thin air to stimulate the body into producing more erythropoietin (EPO), and therefore more red blood cells, which of course carry oxygen around the body. Luke Mathews is best known for his bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games 800m. Leanne Pompeani has had a phenomenal start to the 2022/23 season, kicking off with a victory at the open national 10,000m title at Zatopek in December. Her success continued as she placed second in the world cross-country trails, earning her a spot at the World Cross Championships in Bathurst. In addition, Leanne also triumphed in the world's largest fun run, the City2Surf, as well as the Burnie 10 in 2022.
