This week Nanami tries to climb the ladder. In our real lives, Sarah has gotten a new puppy to add to the litter, while Joe has watched some less well known cartoon movies. Big stuff!In Utena, Nanami learns that family is not all that it’s cracked up to be. She stays with Utena, Anthy, and Akio, which is a terrible idea. And tries to run away but barely misses the mark. Then we get a part recap-part plot imperative episode that leaves us all feeling bad. Strange to think we only have six episodes left!

This week it’s apocalypse time! But first, Joe and Sarah talk about our lives. Joe has watched more of live-action one piece and is not impressed, while Sarah has started Love if Blind and doesn’t think she’d do well on that show.In Utena, we begin a new arc. New montages, new sequences, new cars! Hurray! We get back to the duels and deal with Saionji and Miki this week. Then we end on a goofy egg themed episode. Happy late Easter everyone!

But first, in the real world Joe has decided to learn about Capital (the horror!), while Sarah has finished all of Survivor and is fairly disappointed in the 50th season.In Utena, we check in on Wakaba and see how things are going for her. They are…not great. Unfortunately Saionji somehow weasles himself back into the story and we end on a surprising person seizing Touga’s sword.

The vibes shift this week. But first, we talk about our lives! Joe has finished Turn A Gundam and had a great time with it, while Sarah has started listening to Business Wars. In Utena, we kick off the second saga with a brief recap, then we meet the family as we are introduced to Anthy’s brother Akio. We also get an idea of what the black rose means and it turns out it’s a secret society?? Gasp! Then we get some cool new duels with Kanae and learn some about Mickey’s sister, Kozue. I hope she’s normal!

We return this week with our 100th episode! Wow! That’s a lot of podcasting! We celebrate our 100th episode by completely forgetting about it and instead Joe talks about making a sandwich and Sarah talks about the upcoming season of Survivor. Then in Revolutionary Girl Utena it’s time to meet Juri and her tragic backstory that for once, correctly does a love triangle. You love to see it. Then Utena and Anthy switch bodies in our wacky second episode. Then lastly, Saionji gets more screen time as he decides that he is the protagonist of the show actually. There’s no way he’s being manipulated by friend, right? No way, Friendship is eternal!

Its back to school life for Utena in our latest episodes. But in the real world, we catch up and talk about our various goings-ons. In Revolutionary Girl Utena it’s time to party! Anthy gets nominated to be dance queen and becomes friends with Nanami, sure hope that goes well for her! Meanwhile utena gets more quality time with Touga because her memory is worse than we expected. Then we meet the rest of the student council starting with nice boy Mickey. He says he won’t duel Utena, so I guess we’re safe this week!

This week we say goodbye to Miyo and the gang until the season 3 specials. In real life Joe is cat sitting for his GF and learns the dangers of letting a cat physically sit on you. Meanwhile, Sarah has been hanging out and watching some horror movies. Then we talk about American animation studios for a solid ten minutes, as one does.Then we finish off My Happy Marriage, we wrap up the Naoshi arc rather easily as Arata remembers that he’s a good guy actually and Miyo and Naoshi try to change each other’s minds. Then in the finale, Kiyoka and Miyo set their affairs in order so they can retire to a nice quiet life with each other. Next time, we watch Revolutionary Girl Utena, which you can watch here.

We begin to close in on the end of season 2. But first, Joe recounts his ski trips and Sarah updates us on her survivor re-watch progress. Then we talk about anime a little bit and how meaningful genre distinctions are in reality.Then in My Happy Marriage, Miyo gets put in the witness protection program and she must stay at the Royal Palace?? What?? That’s right, it’s two episodes of hanging out and talking. Exactly what we’ve been waiting for. We meet the ministers of the government and as expected they suck. We also get some ominous rumblings about a traitor in the government and someone needing to be sacrificed cough cough Arata… We’ll see how it goes!

Happy new year everyone! IRL we go over our holiday events and plans as we round out 2025. Here’s to another year with the ShouJoe pod!In my happy marriage, we’ve got more parents. The B plot becomes the A plot and we get a new bi-specticaled baddy. Then Milo gets a new friend and we learn that being a woman in the army isn’t so great.

This week we finish My Happy Marriage Season 1. In our real lives, we adjust to getting back to weekly recordings by talking about what really matters, video games. We talk about some of the latest and somewhat off-putting game trailers from the video game awards and then we talk about what we’re currently watching and playing. We even talk a bit about anime. Imagine that!In My Happy Marriage, we finish off season 1 with two really good episodes according to one of us. This is the most split we’ve been on a show so far. Miyo gets her magical powers and confronts herself in the dream world as she tries to save Kiyoka. Then we get an OVA that we both TOTALLY watched, so don’t even worry about it. We are rolling straight into season 2, so we’ll see you next time with S2 episodes 1 and 2!

IRL Joe preps to leave on his trip to Japan (which he'll already be on when you're listening).In My Happy Marriage, we close the book on Miyo's family and open it on Kyouka's. Miyo gets some formal lady training from Kyoula's sister Hazuki and tries to move on with her live. Also evil ghosts get loose and start harassing the country side, what fun!
